FALLOUT 3 - discussion thread

Sounds like a fun game, but I am going to wait until I can get a cheap copy on the used rack.

Call of Duty 5 is what I got my money saved for.

Isn't SecuROM fucking ridiculous? It's DRM at the level of Sony rootkit quality.

All of their customers are automatically criminals, nobody can play the game that they paid for.

Might be completely wrong here, but isn't SecuROM made by Sony?

So does the PC version crash often for anyone else. I'm almost to the point where I can expect a crash to the desktop every 5-10 minutes (with the game occasionally freezing in VATS, requiring me to force it to quit).

There's a massive topic on the official boards about random crashes, with no word about a patch yet. :(

Yes, I have problems with crashes, but they are not very frequent.

My advice on that would be to save often, manually.

Really addictive game as it goes on, and you get the hang of it.

I've had no problems with the PC version.

Unfortunately my home PC has apparently died in an unrelated mishap, so no more Fallout for me! At least with the PC I have a shot of fixing the problem as opposed to waiting a month for MS to send me a refurb ;)

No problems with the PC version here either ... (cross fingers)?

It looks gorgeous and plays perfectly, having never crashed.

I was just discussing the game with some friends here that bought it Tuesday too and they were teasing me because they had gotten so far into the game and I didn't.

The thing is they are big Oblivion fans and I'm not.

I don't really care for the slow paced find this or that the add it to your character this way or that way and you only get so many points to do it with.
I'm also not a big fan of so many choices in conversations.

Basically I just want to play.
I don't want to put a ton of thought into "hmmm...should upgrade my karma or my luck or whatever??".

Anyhoo they are asking why I spent so much time in 101 and Megaton?

I'm like well I'm looking in every nook and cranny and picking up just everything because I don't know what I'll need or who whats to trade for whatever item.

Like I said, I don't really play these types of games but I figure This one will be a good one to maybe bridge that gap because of it's shooter elements.

I have to admit I am having fun with it but I can easily put it down though too.

The thing is that not all quests end up being quests, like the one at the Megaton water processing plant. It doesn't show up in your quest log, there's no real reminder, you just do it or you don't... and if you don't go around talking to every NPC, you'll miss it.

It's an RPG, thankfully with a bit of depth, and not a shooter. What did you expect? Far Cry 2?

I'm having a problem with the drug addict dudes quest.

I'm supposed to "loot his stash of mentats"... where is it? I got all the mentats out of the desk he was sitting at, but the quest still reads as active in my quest log and there's a marker pointing somewhere in the water treatment plant but I can't find his stash. Anyone?

EDIT: Also PS3 owners, the game pauses for a second and the screen blurs whenever someone on your friends list goes on or offline. It's pretty damn annoying and requires a patch. No clue how that got through Q&A.

I liked the Blood Ties questline. A bit short, but the Family was not what I expected at all.

Aside from your edit (which sounds like a pretty annoying issue), how do you find the PS3 version holding up? Is there an install? Is it optional?

Played about 3 hours worth last night. Really want to take my time with this one so I've been through the vault and got to Megaton where I...

...couldn't bring myself to nuke the town. Call me a pussy (PUSSY!) but I'll replay it again someday and be an evil bastard. Pumping Mr Burke full of lead was fun though.

Not really explored much yet, apart from getting to know Megaton.

And you know what? It's so very much more than "Oblivion with guns". Aside from some superficial, cosmetic similarities and a familiar control layout, it's a totally different game and frankly the comparison is pretty lazy.
