Re: Falling Skies: "What Hides Beneath" Discussion:Comment **SPOILERS*

A lot of people in the camp must have lived in townhouses in Boston. As far as we know, maybe Rick lived in a townhouse and was drawing a picture of his own house. Rick didn't run up to Weaver and wave the drawing in his face. Weaver happened to see it and reacted.

Maybe other people, even those who lived in townhouses, had seen it before, and not reacted. Weaver's reaction was a product of his particular circumstances and I don't see it as an indication we're supposed to believe the harnessed kids are telepathic.

However, we have seen telepathy between Rick and the captured skitter, at least implied. I'd take that as a stronger connection than the incident with Weaver.

Solid episode. I've been steadily impressed with this show, and it threw a curveball last night with the new aliens. I wonder if they are the ones in the mecha suits, or if the mechas are robots? In any event it's a nice wrinkle. This show is hitting the notes that I wish the recent V had.

I'm right there with you - despite not getting to watch it until last night, I agree that this was a very solid ep. Loved seeing Blair Brown out of her 'Fringe' environment and the revelation of the other aliens... If indeed that's what they are.

I still need to read the majority of posts here, but wanted to get my thoughts in while I had a moment.

Really looking forward to next week, though it's a pity that it's the end... For now.

Here's an interesting tidbit, if you go into the show's website and watch a clip where the third alien species are revealed you'll see that they look different than in the broadcast version.

My guess would be that the top image (from the clip on the website) was unfinished effects work. As you can see in the second image, the camera shots as aired on television no longer feature the focus.

There is also a dialogue line spoken by Tom in the clip that is not present in the aired episode. After he says "I don't know" to Hal's "Who do you think they are?", he responds "They look almost human." The aired episode merely has him say "I don't know," then the alien ship zooms by overhead.

Edited to add: Beaten to the punch by Reverend's description as I was typing this post.

I think given the color scheme, etc; perhaps the producers felt the 'skinnies' (yes, I've read Starship Troopers too); looked too much like the skitters, and just not 'creepy' or different enough, and they want more of a visual contrast.

anyone got a screencap of that skinny through the peephole?

Re: Falling Skies: "What Hides Beneath" Discussion:Comment **SPOILERS*

I checked my DVD recording from On Demad in Sac, CA Comcast, and, although the long neck strip of film is gone, you can see the long neck curled back in a side view immediately before (Look at the second picture, you can almost see the curl of the neck) in the back., and then it's obscured by a wide chin or something from head on.
I think just the straight long neck couple of seconds is missing, but, nothing else is changed

You are likely the correct. It's just a guess because the writers of the show thus far have liked to use the literary device of foreshadowing very heavily so I was guessing they might be here too.

Re: Falling Skies: "What Hides Beneath" Discussion:Comment **SPOILERS*

Well, we're closing in on the first Season Finale, 2 more days (3 for me, since 10pm Sunday is too late for me to watch it live). I'm excited that they're doing both episodes together, though, with only a 10 episode season, and having the first 2 and the final 2 air on one night, it has amde for a pretty short one. Nonetheless, I think we've gotten quite a bit out of this first season for how few episodes it's been. We likely wouldn't have gotten any further along if it was on one of the big networks with 20+ episodes.

Can't wait for what we'll find out this week and dreading the Cliffhanger, since next Summer is so far away.

Just a friendly reminder the 2 hour finale starts at 9pm this week instead of the regular time. So plan your viewing accordingly. Don't want to miss out on what should be a lot of fun.;)

Thanks, wouldn't people mad at me if they missed the first half :alienblush:

I'll actually probably be able to watch the first half Sunday Night :bolian:

Re: Falling Skies: "What Hides Beneath" Discussion:Comment **SPOILERS*

On second thought, you're correct. This show isn't written with much subtlety, so no doubt it is intended as foreshadowing, regardless of the myriad of other explanations that we could devise. :D

The same usually applies to me as well, but I'm going to make an exception tomorrow, because I really do enjoy sitting in on the live commentaries. That, and I think we all have some fairly high expectations for these two final eps, so it'll be worth it. I hope.
