Falling Skies - Season 5: Discussion and Spoilers

Am I the only one that got a major Battlestar Pegasus vibe even before all the paranoid, rapey* jingoism stuff kicked in. Very tired and hackneyed and the "twist" at the end just made it lazy to boot.

*I really hate that word, but here, it fits.

Shouldn't the highest ranking Officer (Weaver) have been the Judge?

Weaver made the mistake of telling his girlfriend she retained formal command of the base. Had he simply assumed command on arrival there would have been no court martial for anybody to preside over.

She plays with her bandage and smears blood on her papers... and nobody thinks she's a bit batty?

Weaver recognized that had the authority to allow her to maintain command over her base. He also should have recognized that he had the authority to relieve her of that command once he saw her go sideways, which he didn't do. Instead, he continues to council caution and restraint to Mason, even in light of clearly draconian and tyrannical behavior on the part of Captain Hotpants.

He's being set up to fall in the eyes of Tom Mason, much as Pope was, again, over a seemingly convenient female crush, ostensibly putting his own self-interest ahead of the 2nd Mass. Then again, had Weaver asserted his authority to take command of the base, it likely wouldn't have been in charge long, seeing that all this was an Espheni honeypot to begin with. He would have only been given so much power before getting usurped and the whole place mutinied. Arguably, it might have become a lot more bloody had Weaver taken over.

:sigh: I really used to like this show.

Show of hands of the people that think Pope is not dead and will show up in the finale?

:raises hand

He's not dead. They showed him surviving the gunshot, though now he'll have a severely scarred face.

I'll ride it out but I wont buy the series. I have the 1st season that I got from ebay at a dirt cheap price and thats what got me hooked. now just wanting it to end.

I suspect that Pope will show up in time to stop the execution. But will it be his redemption, or just "Nobody kills Mason but me?"

I'm going with 'No one kills Tom Mason but me!'

I won't get to see tomorrow's show for a week - we're on vacation and where we're staying doesn't get TNT, so I'll watch once we're home.

Won't stop me from reading posts in here, though.

;)

Pope will show up at the military base and proclaim, "Too many people have died under Mason's watch. No one has to die under mine," right before he kills everyone.

Then he gets bonked on the head, forgets all the bad stuff he's done and now thinks he's a botanist, right when they need him to be a fighter against the Esphemi. But then it will be revealed that one of the flowers he cultivated is the key to freeing humanity once and for all.

I know what these military characters remind me of now. It's like grade schoolers who have no idea what the military is like, catch a little bit of The Rock, catch a little bit of Crimson Tide, catch a little bit of The Last Castle, and then try to play army during recess based on what they saw.

"Tom Mason escaped!"

"Well go find him then! Just don't bother with the hill directly overlooking this location that Weaver keeps looking at."

And now heart-of-darkness Pope knows Tom is alive. Why did he think he was dead?
