I'm starting to buy into thinking the Skitters are pawns in another's game (the mechs?).
They were the remnants of the 7th Massachusetts. The 3rd Mass. was the group Clayton claimed was in retreat to the school where the 2nd is based.I like the way the 2d Mass. Took care of, what were they, 3d Mass? The quislings/traitors.
I think my favorite moment in this episode was when Pope instinctively was going to kill Greene, but stopped and spat on him instead. Pope still has a long way to go to being a respectable and trustworthy character based on what we know of his history so far, but it is nice to see some evolution in his character already. And I'm liking Pope realize that, while he considers himself all bad ass, he has more in common with the good guys than the bad guys. Made him see "human" despite color and that the white guys were acting less human than the black father--which is not the kind of thing he was saying before.
That really should come back to bite them in the ass. Since the next handover was supposed to happen pretty soon (the same night that the children were rescued?), there is now absolutely no reason for the Collaborators not to tell the Skitters where the 2nd Mass. is staying. Not bad though sometimes this show's overdeveloped sense of decency is a bit eyerolling. OK so maybe not using the baddie's daughter or at least knocking her out is one thing but then to tell those guys to hit the road feels kind of phony.
As SG-17 pointed out, the show has already been renewed for a second season. On the "full season" comment, though, what do you consider a "full season"? Cable standard tends to be 13, but TNT itself really likes the number 10 (though, based on some episode listings on Wiki, it seems TNT also varies up to 13 or 15 or closer to 20 sometimes too). All we can do at this point is hope that the show gets picked up for a full season next year and opens up this story even more.
The first part of your theory looks good. You might have something there. My theory is this: We know the skitter controlling Ben is dead, because we watched Hal kill him. I don't think the skitter who was controlling Ricky is dead, so it still has control of him. If they want the children to be okay, they have to kill the skitter in charge of them. After they kill the skitter in charge of them, they only have a short period of time to remove the harnesses or the child dies too. (Remember they lost the last child they tried to take the harness off of)
Also, I think that the skitters are taking the children, and took over Earth because they are unable to reproduce on their own anymore.
Just my theory!
Interesting that we keep hearing only 2 more episodes? IMDB still shows 3 episodes with titles:
Ep 8 - What lies beneath July 31
Ep 9 - Mutiny Aug 7
Ep 10 - 8 Hours Aug 19

Mike may have been the last killed but it's not like they could have recovered the bodies of the other guys before they got Mike's. At least not recovered them, then returned then had a funeral then set out in search of Mike.
It's not a big deal, I just wish they would have mentioned the other guys so it didn't feel like the writers are treating everyone else as cannon fodder.
I'm sticking with Skitters and Mechs both being pawns. The true alien overlords have not yet been seen, possibly because they are parasites that use other species (Skitters, whatever is in the Mechs - if anything, they might just be robots - and humans) as hosts as they spread across the galaxy.
Agreed. This is how I viewed Stargate SG-1, almost never a "Blow me away" episode, but, also almost never an episode so bad you're pissed you wasted the time watching it.I finally saw Pt 1 and Pt 2 - would give both 4/5 - sure, the scenario is a tad predictable (I wasn't the only one who figured it out just from the previews) but the characters are shaping up very nicely, and to me, that counts for a lot.
Overall, this is a solidly good series that shows no signs of ever being great, but also shows no signs of getting really stupid/intolerable/unwatchable. That's good enough to keep me watching.
