fall sf/f series

Vampire Diaries , first season, some of it can be a bit painful, but, there's enough of an arc moving, underneath the annoyingness to keep you interested until S2, IMHO. S1 second half is better than First half, and it starts to really click in S2.

So, don't give up after the first half of S1, if you like part of it, the stuff you dislike is likely to cut way down by S2.

If you can't find anything to like by end of the first 10 eps, then, yea, probably not for you.

Yeah. I've been told that I at least need to stick with it for the first 6 episodes before things start getting interesting.

How's the quality of the dialogue on the show? Honestly, I find myself less & less interested in intricate mythology and more & more interested in strong dialogue to keep me interested in the characters regardless of what the actual story is.

The fall TV season has snuck upon us, once more. Here's my list. I think I've found everything worth checking out but if anyone has additions, this is the place for them. My favorites are starred.

New

The Secret Circle - Thu Sept 15 9pm (CW)
Person of Interest* - Thu Sept 22 9pm (CBS) - I'm calling this sci fi by virtue of a very generous definition of sci fi. ;)
Terra Nova - Mon Sept 26 8pm (FOX)
American Horror Story* - Wed Oct 5 10pm - (FX) - Zachary Quinto has a guest (possibly recurring) role! :D
Grimm* - Fri Oct 21 9pm (NBC)
Once Upon a Time - Sun Oct 23 8pm (ABC)

Returning
The Vampire Diaries - Thu Sept 15 8pm (CW)
The Clone Wars - Fri Sept 16 8pm (Cartoon)
The Walking Dead* - Sun Oct 16 10pm (AMC)

And that's just the stuff I'm checking out. I'm sure there's even more out there. I already watched and bailed on Death Valley (MTV) - fun premise, but the execution...ecchh.

Mideason

I think these will premiere midseason, not sure on details yet. The first two seem definite, the other two might depend on something else getting cancelled.

Alcatraz (FOX)
The River (ABC)
Touch (FOX)
Awake (NBC)

if you are including Person of Interest, I would also include A Gifted Man.

In the recurring category you should include Fringe, Chuck, Sanctuary and Supernatural as genre series.

BBC America is also airing the series Bedlam beginning in October.

After googling, Person Of Interest sounds the only show of interest...

And not very genre at that.

Secret Circle sounds like Charmed Potter... Grimm and Once Upon A Time are just one-joke ideas that'll get cancelled six episodes in.

So SyFy has zipola in the scripted arena this fall? Man, are they falling on their faces.

Traditionally, SciFi/Syfy debuts its original shows when the big networks are in reruns. Farscape, for instance, always ran in the off-seasons. They're never tried to make a big splash in the Fall, when the big networks are unveiling their new shows. Ditto for sweeps.

Makes sense, actually. Why throw your own babies up against a lot of heavily-promoted premieres on the bigger stations. Better to unveil your new slate when audiences are looking for alternatives.

With that said, they are airing the new season of Sanctuary in the fall, and are supposed to be airing Canadian import Lost Girl, but I haven't seen a premier date yet.

okay bedlam looks cool huanted apartmen building very cool. the only problem I have with it is that it's only 6 episodes for the first season.

Grimm - It's only hope is that the Friday night death slot means low ratings expectations. It will muddle through to S2.

Grimm's biggest obstacle is that it is scheduled to run opposite Supernatural and Fringe. Grimm's most likely audience already has two other choices in that hour.

My TiVo only has two tuners, and Grimm doesn't make the cut. I'll see it if it airs on Hulu.

if it's abc,nbc or cbs you can either watch it on there main web site or hulu plus.

looking forward to grim it sounds interesting.

The dialogue is pretty much just functional, with some teen-level witticisms every now and then that seem a bit odd coming out of the mouths of actors who look like they must be about 30. If you're a fan of great dialogue, check out Justified - Elmore Leonard is an exec producer on that show, which is based on one of his stories.

It was intriguing because of all the mysteries. They even gave us answers to some of them! :rommie:

I personally found it intriguing when Sawyer or Sayid took off their shirts.

LOST had a great cast of complicated, interesting characters, plus lots of intriguing twists and turns.

Eh, Sawyer has a strange looking torso, no upper chest/shoulders, and the ab region is strange. Jin, on the other hand  (Not to mention Jin's perfect beautiful face) :bolian:

Vampire Diaries...pretty people, some ooga booga, I'd much rather go back and watch reruns of Buffy and Forever Knight.

Except for Terra Nova, this looks like a really weak year in new genre shows.

But strong returning stuff (Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Fringe, Supernatural).
