The fall TV season has snuck upon us, once more. Here's my list. I think I've found everything worth checking out but if anyone has additions, this is the place for them. My favorites are starred.

New
The Secret Circle - Thu Sept 15 9pm (CW)
Person of Interest* - Thu Sept 22 9pm (CBS) - I'm calling this sci fi by virtue of a very generous definition of sci fi. ;)
Terra Nova - Mon Sept 26 8pm (FOX)
American Horror Story* - Wed Oct 5 10pm - (FX) - Zachary Quinto has a guest (possibly recurring) role! :D
Grimm* - Fri Oct 21 9pm (NBC)
Once Upon a Time - Sun Oct 23 8pm (ABC)

Returning
The Vampire Diaries - Thu Sept 15 8pm (CW)
The Clone Wars - Fri Sept 16 8pm (Cartoon)
The Walking Dead* - Sun Oct 16 10pm (AMC)

And that's just the stuff I'm checking out. I'm sure there's even more out there. I already watched and bailed on Death Valley (MTV) - fun premise, but the execution...ecchh.

Mideason
I think these will premiere midseason, not sure on details yet. The first two seem definite, the other two might depend on something else getting cancelled.

Alcatraz (FOX)
The River (ABC)
Touch (FOX)
Awake (NBC)
 
Fringe is the only one I care about, but I say that in full recognition of the fact that I haven't tried a couple of the returning ones.
 
The Walking Dead is not new. It'll be season 2.


I'm looking forward to it and American Horror Story. I'm gonna start Terra Nova for the trainwreck it's rumored to be.
 
the walking dead should be under returning. every thing there looks really cool.
I don't know anything about the midseason show except Alcatraz.
 
Oh right, Fringe. And also there's Chuck, but I'm content with the season finale being the series finale. I won't be watching more.

Chuck is a good example why it's useless to complain about shows going on too long. If they do, stop watching. Very simple. :D

The only downside is that I'd love to see Zachary Levi, Adam Baldwin, Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster in new roles and don't want to have to wait another year.

The Walking Dead is now in its proper place. :D

The River is a horror series about a lost, uh, journalist or reality TV producer I think? He's lost in South America and people go looking for him. Hijinks ensue.

Touch stars Keifer Sutherland as an average-guy dad who has an autistic son who starts to show supernatural abilities, predicting the future and whatnot.

Awake is about a guy who is living in two realities, one of which is son is dead and the other in which his wife is dead. One is a dream and the other is real, but he can't tell which is which. It stars a cool actor whose name I have to look up, um...Jason Issacs, that's the guy!

Person of Interest--yeah... sci-fi ish... the "machine" might as well be, but, I doubt they will go to far down any sci-fi hole, it's mostly the device to get to the stories. I think it'll be a good show. Edgyish... for CBS.

Terra Nova I'm curious about.

Grimm and Once Upon a Time I'll try but I don't think I'll stick with them, neither excite me all that much.

Clone Wars I'm getting a little bored with.
The Walking Dead is the ultimate in boring, pass. And with all the changes in the behind the scenes... Well, for those that do enjoy it, I hope it doesn't fuck it up.

Alcatraz would've been a better movie. Pass.
Awake I'm curious about. The pilot script was interesting. But, how do they sustain it, that's my question.
 
first star wars clones wars kicks ass as does the walkind dead. now the midseason show look really cool. all so looking forward to once upon a time and grim. next week plan to start reading fabels which is what once upon a time is based on.

tonight we ghost hunters returning and paranormal witness on sci fi tonight.
 
I'll continue with Vampires Diaries and check out Secret Circle, and will continue with Walking Dead when it returns. I'll try some of the others, if I remember (or am reminded) to watch out for them. Doctor Who still has 4 episodes this season, so 3 shows ought to do me fine to start off with.

It's not based on Fables. It's a similar premise, but not based on the comic in any way.
 
Well now you've heard of the others, too. :D

The Futon Critic is a good source for short descriptions and cast lists although they've gotten lazy about updating. The usual places will have video promos (YouTube et al).

Just for fun, I'll try some quick & dirty handicapping of the new shows:

The Secret Circle - No Damon? Witches instead of vamps? It will survive the first season but lag behind The Vampire Diaries in ratings, whose coattails it can ride for a while.

Person of Interest - CBS will be richly rewarded for stepping a bit out of their comfort zone. This will be one of the biggest hits of the season.

Terra Nova - Huge premiere numbers followed by a downwards spiral as audiences get bored with the dinos. FOX's ratings expectations and the budget will exceed what the show can deliver. Won't get S2.

American Horror Story - Solid hit by cable standards. Will settle in for a long run.

Grimm - It's only hope is that the Friday night death slot means low ratings expectations. It will muddle through to S2.

Once Upon a Time - Wild card, but in the end it will be too oddball for network survival. Won't get S2.

I'm intrigued by The Secret Circle. (When I first heard it was a witch series where the main character was named Cassie, I thought maybe it was going to be a loose remake of the British series Hex.) I've also been meaning to check out The Vampire Diaries. My best friend recommends it quite strongly, but her record is a little spotty. We have a lot of the same tastes but I can't quite stop going :vulcan: over the fact that she loves Twilight. But then, paranormal teen dramas are always a bit of a mixed bag. While Twilight was crap, I am a total unapologetic fan of Roswell. Even at it's most soapy & emo, that was just some damn clever writing.

Also returning is Supernatural, with the original series creator back at the helm. I guess he figured if the CW was going to insist on keeping it around, he better stick around too just to make sure they don't fuck it up any further.
 
Vampire Diaries , first season, some of it can be a bit painful, but, there's enough of an arc moving, underneath the annoyingness to keep you interested until S2, IMHO. S1 second half is better than First half, and it starts to really click in S2.

So, don't give up after the first half of S1, if you like part of it, the stuff you dislike is likely to cut way down by S2.

If you can't find anything to like by end of the first 10 eps, then, yea, probably not for you.

Actually Eric Kripke isn't taking back over the writer's room for Supernatural season 7, that is still controlled by Sera Gamble. While he still works with the show he doesn't run the writer's room.
