Faith of the heart has grown on me

I've always liked it, even with the remixed version after season 2. It was different for Trek, but that's ok.

I have to admit, it has grown on me too. When Enterprise first premiered and I heard the song, I definitely had a :cardie: look on my face.

Voyager's intro was my favorite. I had been a big fan of the orchestral tunes of the show(s). And then Enterprise came blaring on with this slow rock/pop song. It was definitely unexpected. I envisioned some big piece like the overture from Star Trek: Generations. Never in a million years would I have guessed they would have gone with a soft rock song.

Although I will say when the S3 version of "Faith of the Heart" debuted, it started to grow on me even then. I was completely cracking up the way Rick Berman and Brannon Braga describe the way the studio "juiced" up the song for season three. It's one of the extras on the Season 1 blu ray. Seeing Brannon Braga drumming in the air makes me laugh every time.

Brannon Braga once said that ENT wouldn't be "your father's Trek." For all the flak the series has gotten over recycling too many concepts and even alien species from the TNG era and those shows and films the theme song was one of the facets of the prequel that lived up to that boast. Say what you want about it, but Trek had never had an opening theme like that song and it hasn't used a similar one since.

It definitely helped set ENT apart from the rest of the franchise as its own thing.

I'm afraid it hasn't grown on me.

I've always liked it, the version in seasons 1 and 2 that it, the speeded up version in 3 and 4 was a dirge.

They started the new theme with the season 3 premiere, "THE XINDI". Making it STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE in the title sequence was done on the third episode, "EXTINCTION".

I didn't like the change in tempo either. Isn't that about the time they renamed it STAR TREK: Enterprise?

The changes to both the tempo of the theme song and the title were almost simultaneous with the start of the third season.

Liked it for seasons 1 & 2. The reworked one sucked.

Though, it was time to move on from the original theme. 24 years was enough.

the original cut in early seasons was better. I always liked it. The montage made me look up the shuttle enterprise, was a neat bit of history.
for the purists, i think using the song as End credit maybe better.

"Archer's Theme" would also have been a pretty good opening theme for the series had the creators not gone with "Faith of the Heart" or even dropped it after the initial fan reactions proved less than positive. The instrumental closing theme has always been a lovely piece of orchestration and I frequently go back and listen to it.

Never liked it. At first, I tolerated it because the visuals of the intro are very nice, but it's one of those songs that gets worse the more you hear it, so I tended to mute it.

And then, they decided to make an even worse version halfway through.

While I disagree, the way you describe it reminds me of the theme to Cleopatra 2525. Had to mute it every time.

I thought the theme song was the one thing which was appropriate for a prequel Star Trek series.

Brannon Braga once said ENT "wouldn't be your father's Star Trek." In the case of the theme song if little else he was absolutely right.

I was ok with it from day one. Frankly, I only disliked it when they switched over to the one that sounds like your dad still thinks he knows how to Rock, like a 50 year old trying to recapture teenage angst. That mundane, dull, 2000s sound. Coffee shop trip before you head into the office comfort. I dislike it, is what I'm saying. I only have so many analogies. But just the later version.

EDIT:
In retrospect, the first version is kinda that too. I just find the later version more vapid. I actually liked the first version.

I'm wondering if, instead of just punching up "Faith of the Heart", they should have made a completely new intro. If they wanted to make a more exciting intro, what song would be appropriate?

I suppose it could've changed every season to keep everyone guessing. Uploading the title sequence with the music switched was actually a trend for a while. Elton John's "Rocket Man", Tasmin Archer's "Sleeping Satellite", Moody Blues out there somewhere... taking something from 70's/80's TV that had a whiff of cheese.

I think "Faith of the Heart" was fine. In the first couple of years anyhow. It doesn't fit in a season-long theme about saving Earth from the Xindi. All it maybe needed was a female voice to make it much more different to Russell Watson taking over from Rod Stewart. A bit more bittersweet with the inspirational. Somebody strong and in at the time. Not so middle of the road. Metal maybe like Evanescence. Their lead singer is ethereal, without going all the way to screaming TOS theme operatic.
