Fable II

Mr Light

So over a year later I finally got my hands on this game. On clearance at Target for $7.50, yeah! I had the day off today so I played it... pretty much all day.

I think it's a pretty fun RPG. The fighting scheme reminds me strongly of Assassin's Creed. The game is a lot more intuitive than most RPGs I play; usually it takes me several days to understand all the features and controls.

There IS a lot of tedious running around though. But the sprint speed is very fast, thank god. However the load times between stages is HORRIBLE.

Is there any RPG that doesn't have endless backtracking and running around? (Yes you can teleport between areas in this, but again, the load time is like 30-60 seconds).

I love the dialogue. The whole thing is a great parody of fantasy and RPGs. Very funny.

The graphics aren't realistic but they're pretty.

So I just looked at a walkthrough and apparently I'm already HALFWAY through the main campaign?! Is the main storyline ridiculously short?! That's disappointing. I realize there's a lot of side quests but I've been doing some of those as well!

One thing I haven't been able to do yet is the marriage and property buying stuff. I chose to tell the widow about the ghost husband's letter so didn't get the wife then. The problem is all the money I get is being spent on better weapons. I have nothing left over to buy a property. I've tried working the jobs but the blacksmith was tediously ridiculous for almost no money. I did one assassination job but it just meant going through 4+ load screens, ugh.

Am I missing some secret about having a ton of money? I'm finding all the treasure chests and buried treasure...

Also, like I said I'm halfway through the main story and I haven't noticed any changes in my character no matter how I do morality choices.

So what did you think about Fable II?

What little I got to play of it, I enjoyed for the most part.

I really liked Fable on XBOX, but never got around to buying an XBOX 360 so only played Fable II on a friend's system.

Fable was criticized for it's very short main quest-line content, but I think that the story was improved when they released Fable: The Lost Chapters.

I kept hoping they might do something similar when Fable II is ported to PC, but it would be a longshot.

If i really want to play an immersion RPG, I've got to go with Oblivion.

For money - buy property and change your system clock ahead several days.

But yeah, it's short - but I'm okay with that. With the DLC and whatnot, you can still do a lot more after the game if you want, but I'm okay with not being forced to invest 60 hours into a game to finish it. And as a shorter game, they were able to play with the consequences of your actions much more than in other RPGs.

The menus DO suck though. I guess they couldn't fix it, but god, how do you make menus that lag?

I'm on dial-up so no DLC for me. I haven't noticed the menus lagging at all, in fact I think the menu system is extremely well done. Oh yeah my other big complaint; not enough combat! How the hell am I supposed to level up when there's practically no enemies around for random encounters!

If you don't like the Blacksmith, chopping wood and tending bar are easier, and yes, they're both a grind.

Grind out chopping wood for a while. Stop buying weapons. And just buy property. That way, you'll get a big cash flow goin.

Keep in mind, you need 1mil gold to buy the castle to fully complete the game.

Is there any RPG that doesn't have endless backtracking and running around?

Um, maybe you should rethink RPGs as a genre then..

Wow $7.50, for that price I wouldn't feel bad not playing it if I didn't like it.
The cheapest I've seen is used a GS for $26.99

Every week I go to Target and check out their games on clearance. Sometimes you can get a REALLY good deal. I also got Far Cry 2 for $15 only a few months after it came out, and Dead Space for I think $12.50 several months ago.

So I've been playing it a little more... focusing more on the side quests now which I'm enjoying more now that I'm a little more leveled up. I have a level 2 upgrade on all my powers now.

I finally saved enough $ to buy a property but it really doesn't seem worth it. I spent 8,000 I think and it only gives me like 80 per whatever period it works on. So how does the easy money trick work? Do you just teleport between areas, running up the clock? Should I leave my 360 plugged in overnight, will that keep the clock running? I mean plugged into the outlet not actually on.

I'm now at the point where I had to do some side quests so I can enter the Spire. I think I recall in reviews saying the Spire was the best part of the game is that right?

Unless they patched it, it worked with the system clock - so you could just change the year and make a crap load of money.

I mean, by the time I finished the game, I had enough money to basically buy everything and lower the rent to the point where everyone in the world loved me.

I'm not on X-Box Live (dial-up internet) so I have no patches. So I can just make my system clock to 2199 and be insta-rich? Cool :D

When it comes to the magic, you don't need to level them all up. Pick the powers you like and don't waste the orbs on the others until you have tons to spare.

I was all about Time to level 2 and Fire to Max.

Following Gamespot's advice I only got three powers, time electricity and raise dead. I basically just use the time one. I don't like the way the power setup is, it's too hard to switch powers mid-battle.

I'm really enjoying this game! I've actually stopped doing the story (did Crucible didn't do Spire yet) and I'm just going around doing all the side stuff. I'm hunting gargoyles, doing bounty hunters and assassinations. Fun fun! So is there an end to the assassinations and bounty hunter missions or do they just randomly generate forever? Also, for the demon door you have to kick the chicken into... how do you kick? When I hit attack I just hit it with a sword.

I completed the Crucible (the arena battle of nine rounds), I have not yet done the Spire (which I think is going away on a ship and joining the bad guys as a soldier). Reading through the walkthrough I see that a ton of new side quests will open up once I finish the Spire mission.

Just finished "Stranded" have gone through the Wraithmarsh for first time. Two questions. 1) for the demon door to feed the chicken, how do you kick it without swiping it with your sword? 2) for the demon door who wants to see true love. the walkthrough says all you have to do is blow it a kiss, but that didn't work. It said you need 2500 renown to learn the kiss and I got that a loooooong time ago. Am I not targeting it properly or something?

For the True Love door you need to get yourself a girlfriend/boyfriend, bring them in front of the door and kiss them. Or propose to them if your love meter is high enough.

Oh SWEET. I just got the Daichi sword, a legendary weapon, and it is so deadly and fast! And it crackles with electricity! I am so bad ass now. I've got that and the Enforcer legendary gun which is instant death in the face! :D
