Look at the lyrics for "Sabotage".

Because Your Crystal Ball Ain't So Crystal Clear
So While You Sit Back and Wonder Why
I Got This F***ing Thorn In My Side
Oh My, It's A Mirage
I'm Tellin' Y'all It's a Sabotage

First time ever?

Okay. ...and?

First Kirk says "man"...
Then they put rock, hip hop music in it...
Then Uhura shows bra and Kirk is sort of having sex...

And now there was a "Fuck" in it ?

That was the last straw. My Trek is dead.
Go to hell Abrams. To heeeell :klingon::klingon:

JJ Abrams raped my childhood! Or maybe just the song... No wait! It's Abrams I hate...

In another thread someone said Kirk only had sex 3 times in TOS. For the 1960s that was alot! In this movie, Kirk still had his underwear on and so did the Orion babe... last I heard, that is not sex. :alienblush:

Now rock and roll... TOS never had modern music... that stuff was for hippies and we all know there are no hippies in space, man... not even on the way to Eden, man! Stop bein' a Herbert, man...:p

Wasn't there some swearing in ST:IV the Voyage Home? It's been a while since I watched it, was about to watch it this past weekend, but watched ST:III instead...... didn't the punk on the bus give the finger?

Data also said "Oh....... Sssshhhiitt" on Generations..... I would figure that would have been worse then hearing the F'word on a song in the background of a movie, which even I didn't pay attention to until right now.

But I know I heard a bunch of not-so-good words on tv and in the movies over the years (Hell, Damn, etc.)

Let's not forget that the real world has swearing and you can't always avoid hearing a swear word...... even kids, as hard as it may be to accept, hear swear words all the time. I grew up with a father in the military so I heard all sorts of swearing. I wasn't allowed to swear, but I heard it all the time just about everywhere I went...... I turned out fine :P

One swear word in a movie isn't suddenly going to make children explode in an exorcist-like swear/puking fit and farting up a storm.... they'll survive.

If nothing else, the more swearing that is welcome in Trek, the less cool it looks from my perspective. There have been instances, yes. But I always liked my Trek clean. Not for offensive sake, but just for being different.

Eh?!? What's with the sex issues. Ok, TOS didn't have that much but as stated it was in the 60s. Should we count TNG?
Data + Yar
Worf + Troi
Picard + Vash
Riker + Phone book
...

I shouldn't really comment on this as it is common knowledge that i pretty much have a sewer for a mouth (no comments from the peanut gallery please, LOL)....but i would prefer it if there were no curses in Trek....just for the younger one's sakes.

Well I agree that Trek can do well without needing to add swearing, thus I don't think I'd be up for the whole saga to go salior-streak on us like the Sopranos, but once in a while, so long as they choose wisely where they place their bombs and it's not often, I have no issues.

Let's put this in perspective: the F-word may be buried in the lyrics of a rock song playing in the background of a car chase. Does anyone know if it's even audible? Or that they even played that particular snippet of the song? Chances are, it's drowned out by squealing car tires or something. I've seen the movie twice and never bothered to listen to the lyrics . . . . .

I had always presumed that anytime a scene ended and the couple was still engaged in a kiss, that the deed was done in the interim. If you look at it this way, there was a lot more sex.

If Kirk had sex only 3 times during TOS...then there must have been a lot of off screen masturbation for Jim over the years to deal with it.

Damn TNG crew had a sweet deal with those holodecks.

I've seen it three times so far, I know the song well from growing up, but all this time I never did bother to listen to the lyrics, in either song, music video or this movie.

And considering how often kids at a movie actually pay attention to song lyrics in the background of an action scene.... I don't think there's much to worry about.

Especially since there's actually dialogue going on during that sequence as well . . . .

Indeed... there was always the hints of sex in the original series and other series in Star Trek. Just leaving the quarters of a man/woman, just getting dressed, kissing passionatly grabbing one another then cutting scene.... all of these things were methods of implying sex in an era where sex on TV or any direct reference was taboo.

I just watched a DS9 episode two days ago where O'Brian made a big fancy dinner for his wife for the heck of it, they got all romantic, then the scene cut to O'Brian and her coming out of their bedroom getting dressed and going on about their days........ I'm pretty sure they wern't in there playing Uno.
