Ezri Dax in 'Destiny' (spoiler)

Wasn't Torias just an "assisting outsider" in "Infinity", in much the same way that Audrid was in "Sins of the Mother"? (I can't check myself, as I had to give up most of my books when I moved to Colorado.)

^ Vesta Class

Interesting. According to one online source, the definition of Vesta is: "Roman Mythology The goddess of the hearth, worshiped in a temple containing the sacred fire tended by the vestal virgins."

Temple? Fire?

Wormhole? Ascendants?

Just a thought.

Why a new class, though?

^ That's discussed in another thread I believe (not sure which one but if you find one with a debate on if there is a USS Vesta in the Vesta Class its the right thread). I'm pretty sure KRAD or Mack described it as a kick ass little ship. Then again I'm tired so I may not be remembering correctly.

If it is a battlefield assignment then it is entirely plausible that the Defiant stumbled upon the Aventine adrift, restored her systems to operational levels, and Dax was assigned to command by her CO.

^ Could be, that was meant as a theory (didn't mean to imply it as fact). It could have been, for all we know, built at a Bajoran Shipyard - does Bajor have shipyards - or something.

Yeah, but if that were the case, it would probably have a Bajoran name.

^ Actually in the novel Antimatter the Federation Starship USS Hannibal was under construction at the New Okana Shipyards on Bajor. At the end Sisko believed that Starfleet and the Bajorans would collaborate on more starships produced on Bajor.

Bajor doesn't have a fleet of its own? Or was it wiped out during the Occupation?

In the Terok Nor trilogy, they have a fleet called the Bajoran Space Guard. I'm just guessing this does not survive the occupation, I dunno as I haven't read through the whole thing.

^ Bajor has its own fleet of vessels (they were depicted in season 7), but they are not as capable as the Federation. I even believe that the vast majority of them don't have warp capability. Kira's fleet in Season 7 to repel the Romulan Warbirds was made up mostly of impulse vessels.

Whether Bajor has a fleet of ships is irrelevant, really, since they joined the Federation.

Maybe in the build-up to the Ascendants' invasion, Command assigned the Aventine to DS9 as back-up for the Defiant or maybe the latter was destroyed.

BLASPHEMER!!!!

Though this could be a chance to change the carpets and the registry numbers if they happen to get a 3rd Defiant class after that :p

It's not irrelevant. A Federation member world can still have its own local military. *Most* of the Bajoran Militia would become part of Starfleet, but not all of them.

^ Yeah. We have seen that there are still Bajoran personnel assigned to DS9 post Unity. General Krim remained in the Bajoran Local Forces rather than joining Starfleet. Kira was going over candidates to take over as Bajoran Liaison. Ro mentioned in Unity that she was considering staying in the Bajoran Militia rather than joining Starfleet.

^All true, but the Bajorans in particular would not have a fleet of "starships" maybe sub-impulse or impulse-only raiders at best. Their spacefaring capabilities were described in the Terok Nor trilogy as was what happened to it. All they have left is what they managed to squirrel away. It is entirely possible, of course, that a few new warp ships were built but that's unlikely considering the state of the galaxy at the time with all materials at a premium. But my point, and yes I did have one, was that Ezri's command of a Federation starship has no bearing on the state of the Bajoran's ragtag fleet.

I thought she had been promoted to LT CMR by Warpath, so being promoted to commander and then a battlefield promotion to captain is not out of the realm of possibility in three years, especially with the stories from our current writers.

I expressed intrest to Marco about creating a design for her, but he does not have the budget for it. He did tell me I could make up a design myself as long as I described it as conjecture or fan built ala I.S.S.Titan.

So if the writers have any tech spec ideas for the class and would like me to try and come up
with something, I would love to work with you. Please feel free to send me a email or pm with ideas.

So Bajor *used* to have warp capability, but no longer?

I'm sure that will change now that they are members of the Federation, though.
