Trek V was on last night and regardless of what you may think of the film itself, Goldsmith's score is amazing. I had forgotten how many new themes were created for this film (in addition to expanding upon his earlier work)

The soundtrack for TFF is missing a lot of the best stuff -- actually most of the released soundtracks for the Trek films are incomplete. Are there any extended albums from TFF out there?

One of the best cues in TFF that is not on the CD is the opening quasi-religious theme that plays when Sybok converts J'onn in the desert. Goldsmith teases his main theme right at the line when Sybok says "We'll need a starship".

Great stuff.

I have always loved the score and saw a copy in a local shop for £9 but looking at the back it seemed incomplete and I left it in the shop. Is it worth buying? Despite a love for Trek themes I have only bought a few as the ones I have seen seem severely lacking in contents. (must say though the 20th Anniv of TMP's score is superb...... am listening to it even now)

The only expanded score available for TFF is an amateur effort sampled from the DVD release, that climsily tries to silence the foreground sounds.

The official release is worth money, just not more than 10 or 12 bucks. Like most of the official Trek releases, it's pretty short, though the music is still some of Goldsmith's best.

They should release a limited box set... X number of CD's, the complete history of Star Trek Scores...


Every piece of music from all the movies and TV shows all in one set... Hell make it like a 50 CD set and sell it for $1200 or something... Trekkies will buy it.

They released the complete scores for the Star Wars OT a few years ago. It would be great if they could do the same for the Trek films. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

But they would sell out, and someone would digitize them and put'em up on the net...





Or even better, cut a deal with iTunes, put the entire cataloge that I was talking about up for download. Each track a dollar... Shit. they'd make a tone of cash. :thumbsup:

All has to do with Paramount not giving enough of a damn to licanse Trek scores anymore.

Maybe if we all mail them something, like peanuts or what ever, they'll take note.

Well without breaking any 'rules' I will just say this: never seen/heard legit expanded scores for TWOK, TSFS, TVH (Which sucked anyway music wise) TFF or Generations.

Have heard expanded for TMP (beyond the 20th anniv -- there is still MORE!) FC, INS, and NEM.

I'd go into more detail but it would just get deleted by the mods. So...

Generations is pretty well represented on the album. I can't think of any cues that were omitted from it, for a change. It even has a nice collection of sound effects at the end of the CD.

I wish GNP had offered the same high-quality presentation with its following two TNG film CDs. Oh, well.

There is about ,as I recall, 20mins of score missing from the Generatios CD. I watched hte whole film to missing cues.

TWOK I think is serviced pretty well with what was released on the score. The only things I wished had been on there as well are the cue when Kirk takes command, Spocks death, and Spocks funeral.

TSFS I think is by far the better score of Hornor's two outings, and should have far more material than it does.

TVH, only cue worth mentioning is at the end, post trial till the E-A goes to warp. I think it's one of the best renditions of the Courage theme.

TFF, Damn they should relese every piece of music from this one. The score is amazing.

TUC, there is a lot out of the relesed score, and it sounds good to. :thumbsup:

Gen, Ok score loved the Trek fanfare with the E-B in drydock. But aside from that and the overture/ravine jump piece which everyone nows, I can't think of any other real memorable cuts.

I absolutely love Horner's score for TWOK, esp when Kirk first encounters Khan ("It's one of ours, it's Reliant"--shivers!) His thematic and character cues are terrific.

I always love Goldsmith, but the scores are too brief on cd for the Trek films he did--except for The Motion Picture, which is the finest.

I'm sure that if a record company approached them with a reasonable offer, they'd be willing to work with them. It's that interest from somebody who can actually make the things that's the hard part, especially for an older property without current product to draw attention to it.

They released extended complete scores for TOS Battlestar Galactica (with the exception of the famous opening montage title/credits scene for some bizarre reason) and Dark Crystal during the various time-frames of their respective anniversaries, and for fairly reasonable prices. It stands to reason that the Trek movies may get a similar treatment. Here's hoping.

TWOK is awesome in my opinion. And most of the best stuff is on the soundtrack, but I too like the little incidentals and extras that spice the film up. As hutt359 mentioned, I too would like the Kirk Takes Command cue, but I would also love to have that flutey little cue they play in the pod while Kirk's command crew are approaching the Enterprise for inspection. It has some nice little variations on the horns and violins that get me every time. Especially that little build up right after Sulu says, "...any chance to go aboard the Enterprise" and while Kirk is saying, "I don't think these kids can steer." Not sure why I like that so much.

I wouldn't dismiss the little transition music between the eel-head Chekov/Dr. Marcus communication scene and the Kirk/Savikk turbolift scene either.

It would also be nice to have that cue from the Pon Farr sequence in TSFS with Spock's theme. It is very similar to the Spock theme from TWOK, but it has some elements I like more about it, and it switches to the next scene with a nice little bit of the A.Courage fan fare. I actually wouldn't mind having that whole piece including where the Enterprise approaches Genesis and can tell something is amiss as the Klingons slink around.
