So the question is, should J.J. & Paramount release an extended edition of the film on DVD?
My side of the case: I actually wouldn't mind this personally. If there is one aspect of a critique that I actually could get with, it is that there are some things in the film that could have been expanded on a little more or would patch up a plot hole. For instance, where were Nero & Co for 25 years, and why were they just hanging around? There happens to be a scene cut from the film that shows Nero & Co being held at Rura Penthe before they escaped. J.J. says this was "too confusing for test audiences," though it seems its exclusion left some questions as well.
I was also curious about the upbringing of Kirk. Yeah, we know he got into some trouble with that car chase, but maybe the "Uncle Frank" stuff could have helped explain why he became a trouble maker? I don't know, I haven't seen those scenes but its possible there are some things that could have added to the trials and tribulations of Spock and Kirk and their upbringing that could have added a couple of more dimensions to who they are. Perhaps not as essential, IMHO, than the Rura Penthe & Potential Nero character moments.
With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed and loved this movie, and these exclusions didn't hinder my enjoyment, but it's possible there is even more to love with the film and could add a little more depth to a couple of aspects, possibly?
Your thoughts please?
