Explain your user name!

A decade or so ago when I started using this handle, I was driving a 99 Mustang Cobra SVT. My car before that was a 98 Contour SVT. I then bought a 2005 Mustang GT. I haven't owned a Ford in a couple of years now but why bother changing it....?

My name is a book by William Gibson, the sequel to Neuromancer. When I signed up here, I wanted to have something Science Fiction related, but also something different, not the typical Star Trekish name. So I finally came up with this one. I like it because it can also mean a Count by the name of Zero, and in fact, on another board I use it, it usually get's shortened to Zero (one of the people there even calls me that in real life).

Captain Janeway and I share the same birthday.

Now, I expect lots of presents, since none of you have any excuses about forgetting my very special day. ;)

After much lurking I decided to join. I felt old compared to most of the posters I decided on a name that I hoped imparted wisdom to the new Trek generations.

Daughter was (still is) much more computer savvy than I and insisted on a number in case the name was taken. I was 51 at the time...damn, nine years ago come May.

OMG! First time i've had a chance to get back on today and so many people have already responded!! Thank you everyone!! I can't wait to go back and read everything now. You guys rock!

happy happy joy joy yes a popular thread is a wondrous thingy

make so that everyone talks about themselves and we are happy everyone likes to talk about themselves yes??

Think about IT

It will eat the thoughts you have before you think them and then spit them back at you and explode(expose) them into the infinities of that which is beyond the all voids and ambivalence in expressions of the drunken stupids with words to the left of the margin .,

My ego is so big that if it had mass its gravity well would be able to knock Jupiter out of its orbit. Thence I called myself a god.

It has nothing to do with Sisko or The God Thing, but it is very nice to know that those things were named after my future user name. :)

My name is a book by William Gibson, the sequel to Neuromancer.
"Count Zero interrupt!" :bolian:

That was actually the first Gibson book I read, when it was serialized in Asimov's. I went back and read Neuromancer afterward.

Man. You people are demanding. "Explain this" and "explain that". Geeze.

"Squiggy" was my nickname in high school. The beginning of my freshman year I was befriended by some seniors who asked if they could call me that and - willing to do whatever it took to get into their good graces, I accepted. They named me that because I sounded like Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. I then went to college in my hometown with people who knew me as Squiggy in high school. I started radio at my college station, got my internship via said station, and got several gigs in radio based off that so the name stuck with me until I moved to Atlanta at the age of 25.

Lor'Vela was an Andorian clan leader in Star Trek non-canon. The name was also used in the Klingon Academy videogame as a name for a Lexington-class command cruiser.

It sounds pretty cool, so that's the name I chose for this forum.

I was Tuln (from a character I had in both WoW and D and D) but it was very similar to Tulin, another user. Since I am a pastafarian, I decided to name myself after the owner of the great noodly appendage

It has a double meaning: a) I can snap very loud in real life, and b) It's a metaphor for how I've lived much of my life (never afraid of speaking up or being "loud").

Nothing terribly exciting, or even interesting. I'm an auntie, several times over, and my name is Hill.

Shocking.

It would be simple to explain away my user name as just "I'm a Dittohead, and a super-Trekkie". But it's actually a lot more...interesting than that.

True Story: As a man of the theatre, I took the liberty of writing a one-act skit of myself as Rush Limbaugh, entitled, "What If Rush Was...A TREKKIE?!?!"

Rush opens the lines on his show--and they get FILLED with Trekkies of all shapes and sizes, ranging from "intelligent, yet passionate" to "Get-A-Life" nutjobs.

A Borg drone eventually calls, informing Rush that "Your considerable political knowledge will be used to service the collective!"

Just one problem.

This drone...is no Trekkie!

Rush gets yanked back stage...and emerges covered in wires and metal.

"<I AM RUSH LIMBORG. LIBERALS ARE IRRELEVANT>":borg:

I've been mari on various boards for years and years... so I've told this story a lot and probably changed it a lot :) but this is the shortest version: when I was in high school, I wrote (terribly mean and funny) parody stories about my friends. The character based on me was Marianna, a take off on my middle name (Marie), which was shortened to Mari. And there are several people who call me that IRL because they first knew me online, and I do respond to it.
