Wild guess time...I have this "theory" considering the type of changes I saw in other areas...according to Fuler "there will be lots of Robots". Mudd is around that era the only person, excluding Soong, that has to do anything with robots. I didn't remember and searched Memory Alpha if his actual profession is listed and it isn't. So like Sarek who wasn't listed either and now is an Astrophysicist...I expect Mudd to be a roboticist.
