News Exclusive: Scott Bakula Eyeing Star Trek Return In President Archer Series Pitch From ‘Enterprise’ Producer

If I were a studio exec I'd be tempted to just air the remaining SNW and SFA episodes then put the whole thing on hold until I retired and someone else could figure it out.
And if I were a showrunner or a producer right now, I don’t think I’d want to touch the franchise with a 1000 meter pole, even if the studio could un-fuck itself out of this hole. It just seems an unwinnable situation no matter what.

I have wondered if there might be some sort of twist, and it's not actually Pike who is radiation burned and confined to the wheelchair. I see a couple of possibilities.

I've also thought about the possibilities for Pike after his return to Talos IV. Including the possibility that Pike's broken body itself is a Talosian illusion, though to what end I'm unsure.

After stringing everyone along for ten years that this was all the same, I'd be really disappointed from a story perspective if they went down this road. They chose the setting, they knew the shelf-life of it within the universe, so now deal with it.

SNW doesn't remotely reflect the era of "The Cage". Honestly, it just feels like TNG wearing a bad TOS costume.

Oh, I agree. But SNW was basically shoehorned into using DSC’s visual style (with some extrapolations from TOS) rather than just trying to emulate TOS, though I don’t believe that was ever their intention. Even with the visuals, there is too much influence from the TNG era to really make me think that this is a believable prequel to TOS.

José Tyler does give us the immortal, canon-challenging line that sets off some fans, "Well, the time barrier's been broken! Our new ships can...."

The line that became fodder for head canonistas around the world.

It's the comic book fan in me, retcons galore, "Everything you thought you knew is wrong!"

Honestly, if I were in a position to write a story that sprung Pike from Talos, it would be movie-era.

The Cage was like 5 years prior to SNW so it is pretty reasonable that crew got rotated out after the previous five year mission ended and given the Enterprise's extended time in spacedock.

That’s possible. It doesn’t change my belief.

We were introduced to Pike falling for someone while forced to live an illusion. We've just seen him live a lifetime in an illusion with Batel. And we know that he's destined to live the end of his life in a illusion with Vina.

An interesting, strange character arc. ;)
