Excessive Criticism of "STAR TREK VOYAGER"

Yeah, but the Protostar was fast enough to get people to Earth while they were still a child! You make a fair point though.

She wasn't on the Protostar. She and her people vanished through a wormhole in "Counterpoint", presumably making their way to the Federation sometime in the ensuing few years.

Before you know it, some AQ politician will become popular by proposing a space wall, to keep those of the DQ out.... and make the DQ pay for it, too.

We already saw a bit of that in "Sanctuary". Only it wasn't the Federation doing it. The Federation puts out welcome mats. And once Bajor dealt with its own issues and managed to join the Federation, maybe they did too.
 
There was the also the issue that VOYAGER suffered in comparison to DS9 when it came to trying to do something new and different with STAR TREK. For better or for worse, VOYAGER felt like a step back . . . and the opposite of new and cutting-edge. And the fact that the show seemed to be actively running away from its own premise to be more like TNG.

It's not that VOYAGER was "worse' than TNG; it was just that it was playing it safe by sticking to a formula that TNG had already milked for seven seasons, and that, by the time VOYAGER came around, felt somewhat old-fashioned compared to its contemporaries: The X-Files, Buffy, Xena, Farscape, etc.

It was STAR TREK as comfort food, which, granted, is not always a bad thing.
I agree with this, and others here who have said essentially the same thing.

Voyager was supposed to be the anchor show of the new UPN network and the Paramount execs leaned on Berman for a successor to TNG. In that vein, Berman and Braga were adverse to taking risks with Voyager. As others have said here, Voyager had a great premise and a lot of potential to firmly diff
