Yeah, but there's never been any indication in any previous time travel story in Trek pre-KT that the timeline changes both ways.

Had Beyond outright confirmed that in some way, then it would be canon.

Even the Kelvin Timeline movies say that the universe was the same as its Prime counterpart until Nero arrived. That's the canon and it has been since the summer of 2009.

I'd wonder why they would even bring it up, then realized I just don't care enough about Discovery to follow up. Besides, I already count that as an alternate timeline.

Short of Kelvin always being a separate parallel universe this is the only way its existence makes sense, not just inconsistencies but also when you think too much about how the past has been directly shaped by predestination paradoxes that can no longer occur.

Didn't Prodigy also pretty firmly established that the Kelvin timeline started with the "Narada Incursion."

There's even a handy diagram that shows that the changes in the timeline were all in one direction.
