Everything we know about USS Discovery's interior

Let's talk about engineering, or at least the test bay. In the show it's been called engineering, but BTS, they're still insisting we haven't seen engineering and this is simply a test bay directly off of engineering. We also have to take into account the sign that says "starboard engineering" implying there is more than one of these rooms and we're in the starboard one.

I really prefer the idea that this room IS engineering and it's located centrally within the ship. But the zoom out in "Context..." definitely seems to show it's off center to port. Tilly says it's being converted back into a standard engineering lab, so I really don't know what's going on. If it's NOT main engineering, then what is the red chamber? I assumed it to be the warp core, but why would this random lab have the only window and monitoring station for the core?

Also, in my build of the ship, I have the giant spore cultivation bay as an old extension of the shuttlebay, before the ship was refit for the new tech. The rear wall used to be gone, and the bay extended much further into the ship. But when the spore refit happened, they constructed dividing wall splitting the bay into two halves: The shuttlebay we see in the show, and the large spore growing chamber. I have the engineering room directly in front of the giant spore chamber accessed by a short corridor as seen in the show.

Maybe it’s the starboard impulse engine?
The zoom out is suuuper far from the impulse area, plus why would spore tech have anything to do with impluse? Possible, but I doubt it.

The article about the set redesign speaks confusingly about the red-glowing opening and the opening of a new door that is seen several times behind Tilly and Stamets in "Brother". One of these features added "piping" that is supposed to be the ship's "dilithium chamber". But which one is it? There's plenty of piping behind the doorway on the lower level, a vertical structure that might be the producers' idea of the Main Warp Thingamabob all right. And it would be at ship centerline if this bay were offset, unlike the red, triangular, horizontal thing that reminds us from that TOS piping doodad behind grillework that never got called anything much.

But "Starboard Engineering" is problematic in that "Context is for Kings" shows the camera pulling away from a portside facility close to the neck. Does the door label merely tell us "this way to Starboard Engineering", then?

The show had massive behind-the-scenes strife, I'm pretty sure the VFX team was changed after the first few episodes. Also, writers and producers. It may be that the people in charge now envision that set as main engineering even if the people who wrote "Context is For Kings" didn't.

Indeed. But fitting the pieces in may fall upon us Thermians in the end - after all, we never learned anything remotely "official" about the engine room(s?) of TOS in the past half a century, either.

FWIW, unless the "Context" zoom-out involves camera rotation even though we cannot actually see any, the room there is actually transverse. That is, the red-glowing doodad behind the trapezoid hatch lies to ship centerline, somewhere close to the aft end of the connecting neck, and the room is to port of that doodad, with the Spore Solarium towards the bow and the Spore Tin Can Wall towards the stern.

Looks like a pinball should be rolling around the corridors as the crew scramble out of the way.

I think it's possible there's a centrally aligned main engineering room that we've yet to see, and flanking either side of it are identical engineering labs, aka the room we see in the show. That solves starboard engineering as whenever we see that sign, we are naturally in the one on the starboard side. And the "Context..." zoom out was the one on the port side. The red glowy TOS pipe style chamber could be entirely for the spore drive. The central unseen main room could possibly have a standard vertical core going up the neck or down into the secondary hull.

Just all thoughts I've had trying to piece the ship together. I still prerfer that the room we see is a centrally located main engineering room, but there's substantial evidence on and off camera that this isn't the case.

We don't even know who Discovery's chief engineer is. Or their chief medical officer.

...although I suspect Stamets is going to end up being the former.

Stamets was a lieutenant up until the end of "Burnham's War". Airiam was already a Lieutenant Commander. So...no, Stamets was not her boss.

He was head of the project. Anyone connected to the project reported to him.
