Every Star Trek Blueprint in existence!?!

What was your problem with the U.S.S. Enterprise Heavy Cruiser Evolution Blueprints? I thought they were some of my best work from back then.

It was the Ariel, wasn't it? Damn Ariel nixes that set for everybody. :brickwall:

I actually like the Ariel and all the other designs you worked on :) :techman:

Eh, I always liked Todd's stuff better.

:ouch:
;)

Hey... even I liked his stuff better. Except for Surya, which I liked better than Coventry. And my Kobayashi Maru. I liked that one better than the one he published (by Sorenson, IIRC).

Todd is one of those few people, like Masao, whose work I generally like better than my own. Go figure.

When we were trying to figure out what to do with Excelsior and Grissom, I ended up handing them over to him. I knew he could do a better job with them than me.

He wasn't interested in those McQuarrie and Adam sketches however. But they captivated me. I'd fleshed out the interior of Reliant in my mind and the thought of a much expanded ship devoted to flight operations, for use in humanitarian and invasion operations, as a natural "capital ship" accompaniment to his Excelsior/Ingram space control ship. It was the foundation of my imagined merging of adapted "Starship Troopers" ideas with what we were doing. So, even though I thought he would do better with those Mcquarrie and Adam sketches, I ended up being the one that did something with them.

And believe it or not, I really like that design. :p

I never liked the Hornet, esp the small craft with the big vertical "sails" or whatever they were supposed to be.

The Ariel-class shuttlecarrier as drawn was problematic, but I've seen some lovely 3D stuff over the last year or so at SciFi-Meshes that managed to make it look pretty good.

I'm not familiar with the "Hornet". You don't mean the "Killer Bee", do you?

Ariel "as drawn" Included two views. Side and top. It's tough to tell anything significant about a design from two views.

As envisioned, the frigates, heavy frigates and carriers were supposed to represent a side of Starfleet never seen-- a "Starship Troopers" side and "Star Wars" side played out within the rules of a TMP universe. Starfleet mechs, orbital insertion troops, landing craft, scatter beaming, fightercraft and drones, etc organized in layered task forces where the frigates defended the carrier ops. Ariel has a radically expanded secondary hull to accommodate radically expanded operations that would include colonization and evacuation as well as invasion.

It is what it is. Not everyone's cup of tea. Which is as it should be.
