(Although this is indeed a lamentably short introduction, I hope that this teaser will set the stage for an original story that I'm working on.
There is a connection with the Star Trek universe, try to guess what it is, I'm sure that you'll be pleasantly surprised

Deep space: The 210th cycle of The Undying One.
The Explorercraft sliced through the universal abyss, its distortion generators operating at full capacity hurling the vessel towards its destination. The divinatory instruments had located a suitable target and conveyed the co-ordinates to the Hub which now buzzed with frenzied activity.
The Blessed were once again on the move.
At the exact center of the hub stood the Leader Jgaun the Worthy, who had commanded this craft for many a cycle. In that time they had uncovered many artifacts that both puzzled and excited the Divinatory guilds, ancient starcraft in forms unimaginable to the Legions of the Blessed, whole planets covered in the ruins of bygone civilizations and the physical remains of unknown aliens.
Jgaun itself had stood on numerous worlds, awed at the staggering implications of what was seen and touched, and had wondered just who had existed on these worlds eons before the Blessed had come to be. The curiosity and imagination inherent in the Leaders had awakened in Jgaun an overwhelming desire to see other globes and peoples at first hand and so he had enrolled as a Craft Leader.
In the darkest and most unforgivable thoughts, Jgaun had to wonder if these urges were a by product of the Undying One’s intervention.
A Leader of the Blessed was a truly handsome form, tall and lean with a powerful brain encased in a proud noble head shorn of all hair. Unlike the powerful but slow witted Drones they functioned with only two upper appendices but the limbs had a flexible functionality denied to the rest of the Legion, tapering off as they did into graceful eight fingered hands ideal for delicate instrumental working. Furthermore, an advanced neural component was installed in the higher brain at birth, allowing the Leader to communicate directly with the Craft’s artificial intelligence. They were a fine example of the Undying one’s vision and performed the roles assigned to them perfectly.
The only side effect was the ability to feel and imagine that which was impossible for the rest of their kind. It was required for them as a Leader had to dream upon subjects unimaginable in order to drive forward into the Universe itself but it could lead to boredom or even anger, an unwelcome aspect to a species devoted to pure order and intelligence.
At this time Jgaun the Wise was, for want of a better word, vexed at the circumstances attending it.
Cycles had been spent searching the deepest parts of known space and thus far all that had been found was wreckage and ruins all bearing the imprint of the Great Cataclysm told of by the mighty Oracles themselves. No sign of other life was ever discovered by any one of the Blessed Craft that voyaged out from the Birth Globe so instead those whom were destined to rule all the stars found themselves stealing onto dead worlds and claiming them for their own or rifling around decayed vessels for the long departed secrets contained therein.
Such finds came in many and varied guises, from Globes covered in ash to ones in near perfect conditions to vessels large and small in various states of decay. The Deviators and Facilitators had crawled all over these treasures and had found much to engage the interest and advance the Blessed in their holy journey.
Unfortunately for the myriad beings that comprised the Legion, no other entities had ever been discovered during the perilous voyages. The Oracles had spoken of this as the proof of the holy purity from which the Blessed had sprung and the rightness of their cause in bringing life to a dead and barren galaxy. And so the fleet grew and the vats produced more of the Drones to build this new galactic utopia that the Undying One had promised them many cycles ago....
