Ever Watch "The Big Bang Theory"?

Hiya, folks.

I stumbled across the show last night. More TOS references than I've ever seen in a TV show, and the plot was actually pretty funny.

My favorite TOS line was, "Why did every species have the same genitals? Why didn't some alien woman say to Kirk, 'Why did you just put your penis in my nose?'"

One character wanted to be the leader of a four-person team, and he insisted on the other three wearing red shirts to his command gold.

Anyone else catch this?

Joe, caught

This is one of my favorite shows on air now. It's chuck full of SF and comic book references. Leonard, the other lead, owns an exact replica of a TOS BSG Colonial Warrior outfit and has the bottle city of Kandor in his closet. The episode last week opened with Leonard and Sheldon (GL shirt) playing 3D chess like Kirk and Spock.

I happened upon the show a few weeks ago and I was surprised at how good it was. It's now on my DVR.

I appreciated the SF references (including the guy who gets up at 630 every Saturday morning to watch Doctor Who, I wish they had those reruns on again :( ) but the comedy is so so for me.

Well said. I'm in the same boat.

I checked, and the ratings are terrible and falling.

^^^^I better enjoy it while I can. At least if it dies quickly it won't be that expensive to pick up a DVD of the series...

My girlfriend loves it, the series is on her list of auto-views on the satellite box, so it comes on when its shown first and then the repeat an hour later on the hour behind channel :vulcan: (do you get those in the US?)

The episode on right now is the cold and flu one, they start with a game of 3-D chess :p

I've never seen the show, but I read reviews back around the time the series premiered. I seem to recall mention being made of a whiteboard located somewhere in the apartment which is always seen off to one side or in passing -- never centered in a shot -- and which frequently contains sight-gag writing or diagrams.

My wife and I have caught almost every one of these. The first time we watched it we both looked at each other and just knew it would be canceled ASAP. There is probably not enough broad appeal to this kind of show. It is extremely clever and funny. I am sure the DVD box set will be a big seller.

Glad to hear it's got the references. STrek can't get enough exposure.

But sitcoms simply are, not, funny anymore.

Line. Line. Joke.
Line. Line. Joke.
Joke. Joke.
Line. Line. Joke.

repeat

Actually, I think I read Big Bang Theory has already been renewed for a 2nd season. I was pleased. It might have a little life left in it yet.

Hmm. This is a show I never miss. I'm not surprised it appeals to Trekkers (which is probably why it's in danger of cancellation...the Star Trek Kiss Of Death). On Monday's show there were jokes about:

*Kirk's penis
*Ponn Farr
*Redshirts
*Sarek reading a magazine called "Pointy Ears and Shapley Rears"

Another Trek joke from Monday's Show (well sort of)...

I loved that one; the desperate/clueless delivery was perfect. And the physics questions seemed realistic (the only one that I knew was the Casimir effect). This has become one of my favorite shows.

Nope. Very rarely they'll do an "encore presentation" of an episode on another night, but it's usually a piece of shit show like "ER" or something.

Joe, reran

Consider yourself lucky and unlucky then, but you lot have had TIVO boxes for a while longer than us, so we need those channels.

I've been catching Chuck, which is three episodes in so far in the UK. Not so many SF references but enough to make the comedy/action blend more than palatable (the US government was involved in the shooting down of Oceanic 815 :p )

This week's Trek reference: Leonard successfully uses his time machine to travel into the future and steal the Romulan cloaking device.
