ever tried this?

I have found my old gear bike out back. I wonder, could I switch the transmission for the old gear bike to the 1 speed I have?

simply put: no

not simply put: your cruiser has a narrower fork in back because it doesn't need the room for the extra sprockets, also the rear sprockets are connected to the wheel, and you'd have to replace the whole wheel (which wouldn't fit) and then you'd have no brakes
and you'd also have no way of shifting since the cruiser doesn't have mounts for the derailer, and the cables would all be the wrong lengths

But he can do it, if he is determined enough. Don't tell him it's impossible!

no, I figured it out. I was able to mount things like the brakes and gears, but the de-railer is not in good shape. but I have a bit of bad news, I can't ride a bike there, my folks are afraid it will kill me. so I have decided to take the old bike and turn it into my own personal exercise bike, now all I have to figure out is how much time on that bike I need for it to be considered a hell of a workout.

it was just an idea Sojourner. I actaully know my way around cars.

stationary exercise bike, I tore it apart before I drew diagrams of where every thing went. its not possible for me to put it back together now.

My uni was at least 20K round trip... some of it is steep hills. Now that I've graduated I still do it for fun. :)

Did you break it while taking it apart?

no not at first. but I didn't label where certain screws went, where the cords went for the brakes and gears. Plus the tire's weren't salvageable. So I broke the chain off the de-railer and twist tied it to the bars next to it. This way the pedals still move and the chain won't catch. I will probably add back on the tires but only to keep it off the floor, but I just need some wood to build a stand for it. I have already measured out what I need and I just have to go outside and find the wood I need, problem is that is 90 degree where I am so I will wait till later.
