Ever felt unsafe in an "enemy" team's stadium?

I suppose the taunting should continue with mentions of "jealousy", and "envy", but you know what? You are kinda right. We had our horrible moments. I only object when supporters of other Italian teams, especially Inter and Milan, argue their team is less abhorrent.

I've seen that too. Even in the bleachers, where you'd expect there to be friction. Last time I was at Yankee Stadium for a Yankees/Redsox game, there wasn't a peep raised in anger. (They made us stop singing that certain YMCA parody song.) I even saw Yanks/Sox couples scattered throughout the stands.

The bleachers are typically reserved for drunken, 'look at me', mouth breather types to start with. Of course that's where you will find the most trouble making riff raff.

As for the fans here, I'm not into the Sox, so I have no clue, but we're big Patriots fans. Went to the Monday Night game and playoff game against the Jets. I enjoyed the back and forth between the Jets fans sitting near us and never once felt threatened. The worst thing was the guy in the Pats jersey high off his rocker, drooling on himself, and offering me some sort of white powder. I switched seats with my wife since there was no way I was letting him sit next to her.

Even that's child's play compared to some of the Balkan rivalries; Crvena Zvezda-Partisan, PAOK-Aris, PAO-Olympiakos, Hajduk-Dinamo for example, and that's before even getting into all the ethnic stuff.

I was just comparing it to "Rangers/Celtic now", which really is nothing, at least in the stadium. I don't know that well what goes on in the streets of course, but the atmosphere during the games is much closer to American Football than what it was like in the 80s in Britain.

My point was that throwing rocks, trying to assault and storm the opponent's fan blocks causing a panic that killed dozens of people can't really be called "child play".

If you're only talking about current Celtic/Rangers and not about 80's hooliganism then just disregard what I said but it wasn't clear at all.

But the sectarian violence between Rangers and Celtic fans is, at it's core, more about religious divisions than football rivalry. The organised football hooliganism from the 80's and 90's in England was all about the rivalries between football clubs, and which club had the hardest Firm.

And don't talk to me about Rangers fans. I'll never forgive those fuckers for trashing Manchester city centre a few years ago. Now, because of them, we Mancunians can't even watch football games on the big outdoor screen in the centre of our own city.

Actually it's about tribalism, not religion. They sing sectarian songs but that's about all it has to do with 'religion'.

The Glasgow Police and City Cooncil are finally fed up. They've threatened to make matches closed. It would cost the teams so much money they would go broke. The government is so pissed off they're looking at a raft of legislation to deal with it. Closed matches would only work if the TV relay is delayed, that is not live, otherwise the trouble would just export itself to the pubs.
