Ever Been on a Game Show?

A few hours ago I came across the video tape of me on Classic Concentration back in 1986 and got to wondering ... anybody here been on a network game show? (For the purposes of this thread "reality" shows are game shows ... which they are anyway).

And how'd you do?

I kicked ass in rehearsal and all the other contestants were positive I'd go all the way and win a car. On the air, my opponent and I were making so many blind matches that Alex Trebek had to slow us down and chat a lot.

I set up my defeat BOTH games! I did get a lovely Sunbeam microwave/convection oven, though.

Anyone else?

If you count PBS as a real network, I was on "Whiz Quiz"... during tryouts at my school I kicked lots of ass, during the actual taping I was awful, and broke out the night before... yeah, not my fondest memories :P

Nope. My uncle was on the Price is Right in the early 90s, though, and won the showcase: a firebird, big-screen tv, and a livingroom set or something like that...

Nope. I keep angling to get my roommate who is the college TV news director to get me on one of the ICTV game shows, but so far, nada.

My brother was on Wheel of Fortune back around August of 1998 (his episode didn't air until November of that year). He came in second for the day and walked away with 8 grand or so. He would have made it to the bonus round, but he missed out on the final puzzle answer of "ATM Card".

My mom was on Bowling for Dollars in the 70's. She got the first strike and then got 9, solid 10 pin. She won this piece of jewelry, I think she still has it.

I had a childhood playmate who later, when he was in high school, was on Jeopardy in the mid 1980's. He lost because he couldn't solve the puzzle which was "Valley Girls". When he got back to his school, the kids taunted him in Valley Girl voices.

i was on the nickelodeon game show "Legends of the Hidden Temple" i was on the Silver Snakes and we won all the challenges up to the temple which he got to go through, but ran out the clock on the put the monkey statue together room, one room away from the room with the item, i never got to go through the temple :( but along with the gifts we got (a bike, a super nintendo and some money, the main prize was a trip to space camp) i got to keep the shirt

lol - I remember watching that show when it was on.

Similarly, my wife was on Family Double Dare back in the late 80's.

It was the version where her whole family played with a celebrity. They got Tatyana Ali who played the younger daughter on 'The Fresh Prince of Bell-Air.' They won a bunch of stuff like air-hockey tables and stuff like that. It's all still in my in-law's basement.

My college roomies were on a Canadian game show, the name of which escapes me. They won a full cutlery set, which took so long to be shipped that the house had broken up after graduation before it arrived. I was staying on one more year, so the set came to me! I still have it all except one knife that got tossed out in a pizza box one dark and stormy night.

No, but had a sort of great uncle who was on Jeopardy. He did well, jockeying for the top position, but crapped out on the Final Jeopardy question (he would have won if he got it right). Forget the exact question, it had to do with Club Med if I recall.

No, but I went to a recording session for a spectacularly crappy game show several years ago (someone I knew was a contestant). It was quite an eye-opener. The female co-host was a complete prima donna / bitch who treated the crew like crap, but was a smiling charmer the instant a (recording) camera was pointed at her. I found the blinking "Applause!" signs hilarious - we (the audience) were apparently too dumb to work out when we were supposed to provide same, so the sign would light up and tell us when to freak out. And to top it off, there was a giant TV in the lobby of the network building where said show was recorded that was playing a show from a rival channel as we arrived. :guffaw:

No, but I've worked on a few.

I was about to say the same thing.

I was staying with a friend a few weeks ago and he mentioned he watches a lot of old game shows on GSN. How weird would it to be to come across yourself in a game show you were in back in the 70s or 80s or something? It'll be weird, if GSN is still around in like 2030, to see reruns of the shows I've worked on.

GSN just discovered (and aired) an episode of some Chuck Woolery-hosted show from the '80s that had Senator John Edwards' "female companion" as a contestant.

There's a Facebook group called "I hate when kids suck at putting together the shrine of the silver monkey" :guffaw:
