Ever been made fun of for liking Star Trek?

Not so sure if this goes here but since this is talking about Star Trek I might post it here.

But I was wondering, have you ever been made fun of for liking Star Trek in any way or form? If so how?

I make fun of myself but not really from anyone else (that I can remember, lol).

Honestly, I can't remember anyone ever giving me a hard time about being a Trekkie. And certainly not now that I'm decades past junior high . . . .

Wow, you guys are lucky. In my childhood, it was pretty much a constant. Of course, I went to school with a disproportionally high number of bullying meatheads. It's amazing I ever graduated...

Many years ago, I'm coming out of a subway station on Lexington Avenue in NYC and my cellphone (with the Communicator ring tone) goes off. Lots of people around me laughed. :alienblush:

But that was a long time ago. People don't do that anymore.

That's when you develop a thick skin and learn to make people laugh.

Probably not at you per se. I recall a story about Leonard Nimoy, who notices some people looking and pointing at him. He then realized why, he was talking on his cell phone.

Only once, when a professor announced there would be a test on a certain date, and we already had tickets for a Star Trek convention that day. I asked for the test to be postponed until the next class session. After some good-natured teasing, it was.

No, I don't recall ever being made fun of for liking Star Trek. Liking other things, sure, but not Star Trek.

Which is basically what happened!

What stopped the mocking back then, oddly, was when they all discovered I could draw really well. I never did figure out the connection there.. :wtf:

In early High School (here) I used to bring my Star Trek TAS novelisations to school to read at lunch time. I learnt at this time, nobody else liked Star Trek, none of my friends hated me for it and generally keep it quiet or the general school population would use it to make fun of me.

The only person who makes fun of me for it really is MrCommishSleer. When we'd go out to dinner parties and such he'd make a big deal out of it. I learnt as an adult that people are very accepting. When people come to the house and see my Star Trek books in the shelves they assume they are MrCommishSleers. When people ask about them I find that there are some fellow star Trek fans out there I never would have guessed about.

In a big city like that, where everyone has a cellphone, I doubt that was the reason.
