Ever been made fun of for liking Star Trek?

^ I agree! Isn't Star Trek about everyone getting along? Yeah a lot of popular movies are garbage but ivory tower elitism is even worse.

Nope.

And I tend to tune out people who make presumptions about others based on their tastes and hobbies.

Yeah. Usually by my siblings.

And frankly, I don't care. I love going to conventions. I'm proud of Star Trek, and happy for its longevity.

Lately, no.

Maybe I did get picked on, back in the 90s.

Trek is not as big as a stigma as it used to be. Being a geek is 'in'. There are other targets to people to mock , now. I think Bronies are probably lower on the pecking order than Trekkies, now.

Aside from school kids or friends good-naturedly ribbing friends, I really haven't seen much in the way of Trek-inspired teasing.

Several years ago, I did observe one particularly vocal devotee of the "Gene and I are Evolved Humans, and the rest of you just don't get it" school manage to make himself the butt of most of his co-workers' jokes.

And then, of course, there's that woman who wore her Starfleet uniform to jury duty.

But, really, they were both going out of their way asking for it, IMO. My experience has been that most people just don't give a damn what TV shows you like. :D

I imagine that kinda thing would elicit eye-rolls even from other ardentTrekkies . . . .

Wow, you guys are lucky. In my childhood, it was pretty much a constant. Of course, I went to school with a disproportionally high number of bullying meatheads. It's amazing I ever graduated...

That's when you develop a thick skin and learn to make people laugh.

Which is basically what happened!

What stopped the mocking back then, oddly, was when they all discovered I could draw really well. I never did figure out the connection there.. :wtf:

They had no fracking right to be forcing you to do that, at all. It's no wonder society has come down hard on bullying as it has-that should be a good enough reason.

This is the kind of thing that made Robin Williams what he was, but some say also contributed to his lifelong problems and eventual demise; having to be funny just to escape shit from people that shouldn't be doing said shit to you, period.

As for the topic and myself?

My parents tolerated me watching Star Trek, but did not like it themselves. I was put down a little for liking it in school, but not a lot. Later in life, I was accused of being addicted to it, but I don't know if that's true or not.
