Ever been in a fist fight?

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
I have what they call "retard strength" (pardon the non-PC terminology but that's what "they" call it) but I've never been in a fist fight where I've fought back.

When I was a kid, I was bullied pretty badly and sometimes they were waiting for me when I got off the school bus and beat me and I usually come home with a bloody nose, a fat lip or a black eye or any combination thereto. It occurs to me today that if I had fought back, I would have done some pretty serious damage and never had been picked on again.

Sometimes, I did try fighting back only to land a punch where I didn't intend it to go. I intended the punch to go squarely in the face but it wound up in the neck or the ear and my hand would bend forward or something.

1) Who told you you have retard strength, and why do they think so?

2) The closest thing to a fight I was in was when I kept making fun of this kid's eyebrows (because he burnt them off with a match!), and so he attempted to beat me up by pummeling me on the back of the head with the fat of his forearm. It felt like I was getting hit with a firm pillow.

Sure.

I was bullied and fought back. Naturally, I'd get into trouble at school for retaliating. From that, I guess the lesson was to just take whatever was given out. That's something I never learnt though.

Once in....5th grade....? I gave a guy a playful shove that happened to push him off balance and he fell over. Within an hour I had people asking me whether I'd really "beat him up".

A couple of guys started giving me shit in a pub once and one of them attacked me, but I subdued him without hitting him. I have never thrown a punch at anyone. My friends were not so kind to his partner in crime however.

The last fist fight I was in was with a shoplifter at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse around Christmas of 1999.

I broke one of my fingers while putting the guy in a choke hold.

I did separate my football players involved in an after game altercation with people from another town this last November during the playoffs.

It seems hard to believe this would not "occur to" you while you were being hurt. For many, self-defense is instinctive and doesn't even require consideration or awareness of all the facts.

People at Circuit City. I could lift what I thought was a normal amount of weight and people were looking at me and I noticed and I'm like, "what?". One co-worker equated it to a "special" neighbor being able to lift out the engine of a car. I think I was carrying out one of those oak and glass entertainment centers for a customer. He was all, "are you sure you've got that okay?".

I knocked a guy out once. He thought I was hitting on his girl when really she kept talking to me. I even tried to buy them both a drink, but he wouldn't let up and told me to meet him in the parking lot. We went out to the parking lot, me, him, my friend, and about 20 of his and BAM!!! I layed him out and one of his friends barely scraped me on the side of my head, meanwhile my friend went in his car and grabbed his riot mace. I stood behind him as he maced all the dude's friends, then we jumped in his car and rolled out.:techman:

I can only remember actually punching somebody once; some idiot in a little place in New York back in the early 80s. Some friends and I were sitting at the end of the bar and he decided he wanted my stool, so he slid himself on and me off onto the floor. :rommie: When I suggested that he give me my seat back, he stood up and belligerently stuck out his chin. :D

I was in a couple of little shoving matches in grade school and junior high, which amounted to little once they realized I would fight back. In high school, I discovered that my bony forearm was a much more effective weapon than a fist. Having to fight always made me feel a bit sick, though.

He must have had a few to mess with a mod. :p

Good thing the tbbs didn't exist in the 80's, or it could have scarred us for life. :D

Once. In school. I won, but I got in big trouble for the whole thing (as did he). Later we got along ... not GREAT ... but pretty good, I'd say.

I've gotten in a couple playing hockey. One guy wouldn't let up with the cross-checks, so I caught him under the eye. Twice. It was pretty much over at that point.

On a side note, it took 4 referees to get him off the ice. He'll never play hockey in this town again. Me, I got a two game suspension.

Another time I was in front of the other team's bench and someone hit me in the back of the head. I think I took on about 4 different guys there. Good times.

I once threatened to slice someone's neck open with the sharp end of a A4 ring binder. Didn't need to do it in the end. :D

I don't think I've ever got into a proper fist fight. A bit of playground shenanigans but that's it.

Been in a few over the years, not since highschool thought. Not to say that I've not been in situation that could have broke down into one if folks hadn't calmed down.

AP Biology, a creative mind, and way with words = Football punk doubled over puking his guts up when I described in detail what was going to happen to him if he didn't let me go, and how I knew how to keep him alive through it all.

Once in junior high school some kid pulled a knife on me and attempted to steal my lunch money. I swing at him with my cane, and was aiming for his arm, but ended up missing because he stepped back in surprise. I guess he didn't expect a kid in a wheelchair to stand up. My cane grazed his stomach and knocked him down. I don't have to tell you I was scared. Acted on pure adreniline.

Nope.

I usually threaten people with my scrawny asthmatic boyfriend and that's the end of that.

A big thing in life for me was fear - fear of fighting back, fear of fighting in school, blah blah.

I'm gonna teach Olivia that if someone bullies her in school, she won't be in any trouble with me if she fights back and don't be afraid of detention or anything else in school because it doesn't hurt or anything.
