Event Horizon

I'm actually leaning toward the view that the alternate dimension is not literally hell, but simply one where the laws of physics are so different that anyone who ends up there is "warped" because their minds can't function correctly (i.e. their body chemistry is affected).

Meaning, it isn't ACTUALLY hell, but the continuum warps the mind so it THINKS it's hell.

That's how I've always viewed it. It's not hell per se, but somewhere that's that twisted that humans can't handle it and literally tear each other apart.

And all things considered I'm actually GLAD that the extra footage has been lost. From what I hear, the additional scenes (of what happened to the original crew) are so disgusting that it would make Takashi Miike puke. Do we really need to see this?

A sequel might have worked, if they kept the 'demon loose in the real world' ending from the first one. Working behind the scenes to open a larger portal on Earth.

If the first one was "The Shining in Space", and it was, then the second one could have been "Pacific Rim in Space".

Fishburne's Captain Miller was surprisingly rational character in a horror movie. The first sign of trouble and "We are leaving!".

I absolutely love that scene. No nonsense and actually, quite funny. I like the bit where pertwee just casually says 'this ship... is fucked' that always gets a laugh too.

No they weren't and yes we did, they're Chaos Daemons, EH was humanities first contact, everyone who's managed to evade the Inquisition knows that.

Hopefully these references will get picked up on soon....

Nothing the Grey Knights couldn't deal with.

Not the 1st time studio execs have shamelessly butchered a longer, better movie for one reason or another. 13th Warrior comes to mind.

I really liked the movie, but do wonder how better this could have been if the original version had been released instead. A financial disaster mainly due to the fact that they reshot, I believe, 80% of the film.

Another great scene is when Miller tells Weir to get back to the Lewis and Clark or he'll be walking home, then Weir says," I AM home," and disappears into the darkness

I rewatched this movie last week and a detail I noticed was that while the American crewmen had the Old Glory flag on their shoulder, the British crewmen didn't have the Union Jack, instead they had a futuristic version of the EU flag with two circles of stars. I guess no one anticipated Brexit 20 years ago.

Also, Weir (being Australian) had a modified version of his own country's flag, with the Aboriginal symbol in place of the Union Jack.

And American crewmembers had a US flag with 55 stars.

Well at that point the distinction is a little academic, no? ;)

I mean if it looks like hell, feels like hell and makes people spout Latin while gouging out eyeballs like they've been to hell, it really may as well be hell. Or at least *a* hell.
Also, from a philosophical standpoint, real hell is a state of mind, not a literal place...but if there's a place that exists that puts you very firmly and inexorably in that state of mind then that's as close to actual, literal hell as you're ever going to get.
