Event alluded to by Bryan Fuller.

@BillJ: Discovery is supposed to be set in the same prime timeline as the earlier shows and as you said during TOS there wasn't this kind of xenophobia as in Enterprise and Discovery. That's the reason why i think that's the story Discovery will tell.

There is so many posts and such lately I'm having a hard time determining if this was already brought up, but the series' first season is almost at a close and I'm still at a loss to determine what the "event" that they said was mentioned in multiple series in the past that discovery would be about... is it just the Klingon war?

Please give this a lock if its open in another post...

It so far has not been revealed, though many are speculating the 20% of the Federation being conquered while Discovery was in the MU will include Vulcan, thus explaining McCoy's line in Conscience of the King about Vulcan being a conquered planet.

Of course, the original intent was that it was humanity that had conquered Vulcan, but today's fandom doesn't want to acknowledge that Roddenberry's humans were not always the peaceful explorers TNG retconned them as. And this forces them to face some unpleasant realities about Starfleet being a military, because fighting a war certainly doesn't seem to do the trick. But I digress.

I don't think it's been revealed what that event was. I do think that was a Bryan Fuller thing, and they jettisoned it after he left. We may never know what it was sadly.

Did any one ever say that some event mentioned in a series is basis of Discovery? I remember Bryan fuller said that TOS episode Balance of Terror is what inspired the Discovery story arc. Obviously the show is not based on any event from that episode. But encountering an adversary after a long absence is the idea that probably came from that episode.
