Damn, I was just about to post the same Altair VI theory! I was reading a transcript of the episode and that line popped out at me. That's my guess now, as well. Nice going, JoeCabby!![]()
Yes, that's a funny coincidence.

Without bothering to trawl through all the other suggestions, has anyone brought up The Vulcanian Expedition? That's such a vague name. Was it an expedition to Vulcan (Vulcans were originally Vulcanians)? Or an expedition of Vulcans somewhere?

I was trying to make a joke. No idea of it's been brought up.Yeah, sorry everyone.
No, you still hear the term "Vulcanian" late in the first season. It's also used in "Court Martial", "A Taste of Armageddon", "This Side of Paradise", and "Errand of Mercy."I think the last one to call Spock a Vulcanian was Mudd, I remember thinking that it was some kind of a slur (because I didn't see them in order the first time and it was the first time that I had heard anyone call Spock that).

The interesting thing about Mudd guessing that Spock was "half-Vulcanian" is that it implies that half-Vulcanians look noticeably different from the full-blooded variety. So maybe at that early stage of the series' conception, full Vulcanians had more pronounced ears, different-colored skin, or other exterior differences.
I don't know, but I think the more we compare this new series with TOS, the more it's hard for the creative teams to give us a descent 21st century Star Trek. It also bad for us, as if we see something doesn't match, then we will hate ST Discovery. So i think it is better if we forget TOS when we watch Discovery. That's, to maximize our enjoyment when we watch it.

Or you could just assume it's a 21st century tv show with a new creative team trying to write a new show that doesn't want to be tied down to every little detail from a 50 year old show. That would work too.
RAMA
Well that's a bit harsh.I don't know, but I think the more we compare this new series with TOS, the more it's hard for the creative teams to give us a descent 21st century Star Trek. I agree. I want this to be a good TV show first and foremost. If canon/continuity has to be retconned at some points here and there for that to happen, so be it.I think the main reason why we shouldn't hope for something TOS like is that TOS is old and that modern viewers, with the exception of die hard TOS fans, don't watch old things.

My post was directed exclusively at the bolded part of Brainsucker's post, which was "if we see something doesn't match, then we will hate ST Discovery".
