Eva Green cast as female lead in Dark Shadows

Oh, and I had a huge crush on Lara Palmer. Angelique for the win.

As did I, although I think you mean "Lara Parker."

(Who has written at least one Dark Shadows novel for Tor, btw.)

That scene in the second movie when she descends the stairs in a see-through white nightgown made quite an impression on me in my youth! :)

Holy crap, I can't believe I wrote Lara Palmer. I saw your correction, and thought, "What the heck is he talking about?"-- then I looked up.

That's what I get for rewatching "Twin Peaks" this week (and at least I didn't go all-in and write "LAURA Palmer")...

You wrote a DS Tor novel? When? I read a lot of DS novels when I was a kid, but that was in the seventies...

Lara Parker and Kathryn Leigh Scott both write some books and do the conventions and fan tours and all that. After keeping the franchise going for a lot of years, I do hope there are as many places to fit originals in this movie as is possible. I'd rather the old folks be shoehorned in than nepotism. Lara Parker could be Mrs. Johnson! David Selby would have to be some pesky old man. It could be done.

Has there been talk of Christopher Lee making an appearance? Doesn't he always cameo in Burton's films. That would just be too cool, combining such vampire icons.

My, My! Can you imagine Lee and Frid if they were onscreen together?! Whoa. :)

Nope. I was referring to Lara Parker's recent DS novels. The most recent was Dark Shadows: The Salem Branch, published by Tor.

And, yeah, I read plenty of those old Marilyn Ross novels in the seventies, too! I think I still have some of them in a box somewhere.

(And, of course, I would kill to write a DS novel of my own.)

Ah, of course! I've heard of those books. She did some Angelique retconning, IIRC. :)

Personally, I'd love to see David Selby cast as Roger. I think he could probably pull it off. :)

Wow finally found this thread again! I'm much more accepting of Burton's film after hearing there will be cameos! I think Depp, HBC, and Michelle Pfieffer's interest in the original may be keeping things in spirit rather than going off the deep end like Alice.

Frid, Selby, Parker, and Scott will all have cameos! As whom, I wonder? I hope Elfman's score is really akin to Cobert's, sometimes those cues were the best part. Yay!

i just read that on another site. great news. i didn't expect this many originals would show up. and it wouldn't feel like Dark Shadows without the original music.

also, Christopher Lee is rumored to have a role and Alice Cooper has a cameo.

Having since seen Eva Green chewing the scenery in Camelot I think she might be a good addition to this project. I'm not overly familiar with the source material but I can totally picture Eva Green in Dark Shadows.

I betcha anything that they'll do Barnabas' age inducing overdose and that Frid will do his cameo there.

I have just recently discovered DS and I love it. I hope that Burton and Depp don't screw this up. In my opinion, Burton's recent stuff has ranged from mediocre (Sleepy Hollow) to downright awful (Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, Corpse Bride). I didn't like Sweeny Todd much either because the blood was just WAY over the top.

At any rate, the hype surrounding the new movie will make DS merchandise more available. Some new novels might come out. And Dynamic is publishing a NEW COMIC this October! It picks up where the tv series left off :)

i'm looking forward to the comic. still working my way through the series though. on episode 818.

How does one newly discover the series? I grew up watching it but I always feared that if you weren't introduced to it young when you can accept the campy and perhaps be scared, that one wouldn't like Dark Shadows. So then, that is not the case? Folks can see past the bad and enjoy the storylines and performances anew? Even in this age of cgi? Yes yes Eureka!

I'm going to have to catch up with some of the vhs and dvd I don't have now on the instant watch!

well i grew up watching the reruns on Sci Fi, but i loved campy things as a kid and still do. on the imdb board for the movie there seems to be a lot of people who have newly discovered the show. i just wish the old series was still on Sci Fi. or SYFY.

Lots of cameos in that cast list. I like it.

People can appreciate music and art from past centuries, so I don't see why they would be afraid to appreciate a TV show from fifty years ago. And Turner Classic Movies is always showing movies from the 20s and 30s, and their audience presumably includes a lot of younger people seeing them for the first time (I love that stuff and it's all way before my time). Not everyone is a dedicated follower of fashion.

I'd start someone off with the 1990's remake - it's only about a dozen episodes, has slightly higher production values that may seem less campy and gives an overview of the time travel and some of the major plotlines.

^ i'd agree with that. watching the remake on Chiller is what got me interested in the series again. i'd forgot about it since Sci Fi quit showing it.

Or, if you want the Reader's Digest version, just watch the first movie version from the seventies: House of Dark Shadows.
