Eurovision Song Contest 2012

Bah, I should have voted more often for Greece and Moldova. :D Anke Engelke did a good job sneaking in a political message without violating the rules, almost as cheeky as the Israelis used to sometimes do it.

So sneaky that I didn't notice it! What did she say? :)

(Our point giver congratulated the hosts with their "beautiful dresses from den Aldi", cheeky bugger)

She said that it's good to have a choice, that Europe's watching Azerbaidjan and wished them good luck on their journey.

 I missed that but our commentator usually talks about what the jury speakers say.

Frak it all.

And I'm Swedish.

This only means I have to work next year.

The finale is most likely to be at this arena:

Hi everybody. My thoughts on the results. THANK GOD Sweden won thus preventing Russia old ladies winning it. I have nothing agnist old ladies but that song was a joke song. There is always one or two joke songs in Eurovision and usually they never make it to top 10 but Russia almost won it.
Anyway i am happy Sweden won. I am also glad that Estonia(Kuula) ended in 6th place. A great song and fantastic singer. I also liked Spain. What great singer.
However i didnt think Albania deserve to be so high. She performed very well but large part of the song she was just screaming. Turkey(7th) and Azerbajan(4th) were medicore songs but ended in top 7.
Overall i am good as one of my five favorite won. My favorite were Estonia, Spain, Sweden, Greece and Iceland.

I think Germany and Italy should do what Yugoslavia did. Split into 5 or 6 little countries and then keep voting for each other. Dramatically increases your chances of finishing in the top half of the table.

Decent finish for both, though. And while I thought Loreen's diction sucks her song was still quite nice. She must have a swollen tongue... or she's constantly drunk. She seriously can't articulate well. But I was rooting for Sweden during the voting because I didn't want the (cute) joke song from Russia to win.

I felt sorry for Iceland. :( I thought they'd finished in the top half.

Don't know what happened with Iceland! That was quite a disaster.

But otherwise, yes yes yes at my favourite song of the year winning by a landslide :adore: Loreen. VERY ready for Stockholm 2013 now.

Serbia, Estonia and Macedonia all doing surprisingly well was a lovely touch to the results, made up for the non-Svenska Nordic countries flopping hard. :(

What a weird contest. Sweden's entry was alright, but by the end I was glad it beat the likes of Serbia (very boring), Albania (terrible screeching) and Azerbaijan (just mediocre). I loved the Russian ladies, so I'm glad they did well.

Poor Englebert - just above last. I'm used to having the UK finish in poor positions, but this is probably the most disappointed I've been with it. I think his sweet ballad just got lost at the start, especially when all the following acts had amazing pyrotechnic displays. The UK's seemed like a Catherine Wheel had just been set off!

I also really liked Ireland, Denmark and Iceland, so of course they all did poorly. Looking out for me in the top half of the table were FYROM, Italy and Germany, which I all liked.

I always get a year where the stuff I like does relatively poorly, whilst all the shit rises to the top. That's Eurovision for you these days! :D

So where do you stand on Scottish independence then? Is winning Eurovision reason enough?

And we were doing so well in that department until 1871. ;) Then again, I'd doubt Prussia would deem any of the other puny German states worthy of its votes. And they'd send either a guy playing the flute as a tribute to Frederick the Great or a marching band every year.

These days? Isn't that what it's always like?

I don't normally watch Eurovision - except sometimes to have a laugh at the predictable neighborly voting, and to see the amount of cheese and camp at display - but I checked out a few of the songs this time, so I can say: Engelbert Humperdink's song was nice and better than quite a few of the best placed ones.

The upside is that the winning song is rather good for Eurovision standards, i.e. it's actually a decent song by general standards. Is it me, or does it sound a bit like (it's trying to sound like) this

Congrats to Loreen and Sweden for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2012:techman::)!

I think we got a nice winner..and it was one of my favorites, too. Last time a song that was part of my favorites won back at 2007.
Swedes love the ESC..and they will make a great show for Europe next year. I mean, just look at the Melodfestivalen, its almost like an Eurovision itself.
I really enjoyed the final:cool::)
We have the overall quality of the songs was good and everybody gave their best:techman:

Looking at the Top 10 of the results, I have to say that I did not expect Turkey go so far..but I guess it was liked by many.
Estonia did very well and proofed that you can get far by performing with your own language. Three of the "Big 5" also on the Top 10, good.
Spain was absolutely stunning yesterday..what a singer they have:techman:! Its almost a shame that it was not on the Top 5.

Well, another ESC is again over.
I have had good time listening, debating and watching the songs. I got to know some new artists, to listen and follow in the future:)

True!

I find it a bit annoying that some of the better songs didn't even make it through from the semi-finals, which I imagine had a smaller TV audience than the final.

I seem to think things were better with fewer participants, but even back then there was a mixture of good and bad songs doing well. It has a rose-tinted history for me, I suppose.

next year the uk should hire guildo to sing 'my lovely horse'. bet it'd get more points.

I don't think that'd help the UK, certainly wouldn't help England :)

I do love how all these Balkan countries who wanted to kill each other not so long again can't stop voting for each other.

I actually liked Italy and Denmark...as usual I have no idea. I feel sorry for Englebert, he wasn't that bad, patriotism apart he was better than a whole heap of other crazy acts. I don't know where the UK goes from here. We've tried taking the piss and got nowhere, tried taking it seriously and got nowhere. If we'd had singing grannies we'd have probably got nil pointe!:)
