Trust issues are abound when a doomsday weapon is discovered in the subterranean military complex. Meanwhile, Zoe's life is endangered and Eva Thorne knows why.
Jack is going to rip Eva a new one...

As the title says, this is the mid-season finale. Eureka will return in January with 13 more episodes.

Excellent episode. I was happy to see some of my guesses were correct (the three men were aged rapidly, Eva was around back then and hasn't aged), although I was wrong about her husband (and instead turning out to be her brother). It was also nice to see Eva was ultimately not malevolent, but rather trying to bury her past once and for all. I hope we haven't seen the last of her (and not just because I absolutely love Frances Fisher).

Nice little mini-cliffhanger, although it's really only going to go one of two ways: 1) Jack struggles to get his job back for a few episodes and gets it back after doing something heroic and re-earns the general's trust or 2) He gets a new job that allows him to act in the same role as before, but in a different manner. No way in hell are they're eliminating his character.

Oh, and incidentally, the episode is actually called "From Fear to Eternity." I misread the page at TV.com.

You read my mind. I love Frances Fisher. She has to come back.

Allison is pregnant! I called it. Well, that's a twist to the Allison/Jack romance.

What will Eureka do without Jack? What about Zoe? Can't believe we have to wait until January. What the heck am I suppose to watch now?

I really enjoyed that episode. I was wondering how they were gonna handle Carter letting Eva go.

If I were to make a guess, I bet Henry, as mayor of Eureka, creates a local Eureka police department, which Carter leads. He essentially would have the same job, but someone would come in to take the military's sheriff position, and there would be friction between the two of them.

Make Jo the Sheriff. Carter did mention she should get a promotion.

Wow, this was a very interesting mid-season finale. I still don't quite get all the details though. Suffice it to say, Eureka was where the first A-bomb tests really took place, and some radioactive 'purple liquid' was a byproduct, causing rapid aging...the cure was another atomic bomb explosion...?

I was wondering if one of the cast would be offed in this episode, it seemed like many cast members were put at risk. Eva did seem highest on the list, and apparently she was trying to commit suicide...

So Eva was '1 in a million' who the radiation didn't kill, but rather caused slowing of the aging process? They should study her biochemistry--could lead to an immortality vaccine or something. She was overcome with guilt, after years and years gets into a position to come back and bury what happened then? And she wants to die there, to honor the memory of her brother?

I'm guessing there was a 'Tuck Everlasting' situation where the immortality had become a curse to Eva, and she wanted to end her life?

I do wonder though whether the final reveal of Eva's story is ret-conned (in part). Eva's secrecy, carrying the vial around (why keep the deadly stuff if not to study it?), Zoe accidentally wanders in and gets infected (did she take adequate precautions?)...there's the rushed detonation (was it really worth the risk of earthquakes, radiation leaks, etc. which turned out to be a real consequence?). It's all a bit weird to me, I wonder how it stands up to close scrutiny. Not sure if I can fully accept Eva's motivations as they were explained. Why not invent some cover story, instead of insisting on such secrecy, redacting things, and just inciting more and more curiosity?

But, in the end I grew to appreciate Frances Fisher and what she brought to the role. Having only seen her as a mean mother figure in Titanic and the Audrey Hepburn Story, I was pleasantly surprised to see her role in Eureka. I hope she returns, but wonder what kind of storyline they would give her now that the secret is out.

It started raining at my home, and my dvr couldn.t record the last 6 mitutes of Eureka, something important besides Carter losing his job and Allison pregnant?
Why was carter fired? And how?

He was fired by the general that was visiting Eureka for letting Eva go instead of arresting her.

Kinda nice that Eva wasn't all bad--except that her firing people meant that time-wacko's actions resulted in Nathan's dying. If he's dead. Maybe he's just "shifted."

I'm really not fond of Lexi. Why the hell does everyone not only immediately accept her, they like her so much that she's suddenly a community leader? WTF?

I agree that it sounds like Jo's promotion could result in Carter working for her. That'd be a twist. But then, she couldn't just step down because that would imply she's not capable. I don't like the no-win situation that's getting painted into (either she's good enough and Carter's not as needed; or she's not and her being sheriff is a joke).

Still love the show and I'm curious what's gonna happen with Allison, the baby, and Carter. And where is Kevin?!

It was well above average, but not quite excellent. This half of the seasons seems to have got so quick. I'm thinking that Jo will get promoted, too. I'll be interesting to see where they go with that though.

The possibilities for Jo are interesting, I think the 3rd season underused her. I also missed more intereactions with S.A.R.A.H. In some ways, this was a Doctor Who-esque season, built up nicely, ended in an interesting way with a medium cliffhanger development for next year. However, the Eureka screenwriter's blog says the staff does not know when Scifi will air the next 13 eps, could be Jan 2009, could be July!!!

Allison's son has for practical purposes been eliminated. Not even a throwaway line such as "Make sure Kevin is on the bus" when they were evacuating the town.

I just realized...no Taggart all (mid) season. I want more Matt Frewer! :scream:

Me too. I wonder if he's off the show permanently.

ETA: Frewer is in the Watchmen. Guess he's been a bit busy.

Wasn't Kevin cured at the end of the S2?

It's most likely because she's Carter's sister (and they only had 5 episodes to develop her character).

That would work pretty well, they're more or less partners anyway (of course Carter would start to get the shitty assignments instead of Jo).

He already gets some pretty shitty assignments: Staying behind to blow up the 2d sun, having to stay in the underground, etc.

That's true, he pretty much always does the dangerous stuff (partially because he's the main character I'm sure).

By shitty I meant more like "busy work" assignments.

He was cured. So far this season we've only had a couple of little peaks at him. Was he a bad boy and is being punished?
