Ethan Peck's Spock

I think both Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto do Nimoy's legend proud.

I agree with 50% of that statement. I think Quinto does Nimoy's legend proud because his Spock (and the rest of the nuCrew) were specifically trying to evoke the TOS cast. With Peck, that's not the case. He shows zero proclivities toward Nimoy's TOS Spock. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing. I would rather the Discoverse take their Spock in a new direction rather than just make a carbon copy of '60's Spock. As I've mentioned before, I think Peck does a superb job playing a Vulcan who just happens to have the same name as another guy.

Why is it so hard for some trekkies to accept that characters aren't static and can change and grow over time like real people do?
In my experience people don't like change. Change in a real person happens over time and in such a way we don't often see it, even in ourselves. In fictional characters in can be more jarring.

I completely agree that characters need to change and grow and develop. And I think the push back is often irrational. But, it does make sense.
You don't give much credit to writers, directors and actors, huh? They respond to the situation. I think both Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto do Nimoy's legend proud.
Indeed.

For Trekkies i think it stems from the fact Star Trek is one constant in their lives that they can rely on. There is probably an entire thesis that could be written about how trekkies being resistant to change and needing infallible canon stems from real world trauma

Potentially. Though, even I hate change I can accept Trek changes.

I am sure some fans never got over Pike being replaced by Kirk. ;)

The rallying against Filmation's TAS (before it even aired) and ST: TMP (and TNG!) was very strong in fan newsletters of the day. As an enthusiastic new Trek fan in December 1979, I can vouch for the need to negotiate much resentment towards TMP from TOS fans, and bewilderment from me.

If people could handle a swap of Saaviks (complete with eyebrow shape, eye colour and personality), they can handle a tech makeover.
Nope. Still not over Saavik ;)
