Estranged Love Child the Newest 'Ghost Buster'?!

I never got the impression that Oscar was their love child...unless Dana did a Carol Marcus and kept Oscar away from Peter and lied on top of it, I think Peter would be pissed about that especially the way Dana and his relationship went and all the grief that Dana had given him about his antics during their relationship. I realize that we pretty much only got a throwaway line about their relationship. Now if they wanted to have Oscar as the lead is fine and introduce a character that is actually Peter and Dana's son explaining that they got married at the end of Ghostbusters II and had a son together that's fine as well. This movie has been in development hell for so long now I'm starting to doubt it will ever happen.

I also never got the impression that Oscar was Venkman's son. As I recall, they stated that Dana had gotten married after she left Peter and that she and her husband had recently broken up. And that Peter and Dana had not seen each other since their break up. So clearly Oscar was the child of Dana's off-screen ex-husband.

But I could see that Oscar winds up being Venkman's step-son. And that Oscar considers Peter to be as much his father as his birth daddy. Peter could even have adopted Oscar, giving him the Venkman surname.

^ This alternative would be acceptable as well. The impression from the movie is that Peter and Dana hadn't seen each other in a long while and that they had broken up on bad terms.

Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Ghostbusters II featured Oscar heavily, and it sucked.

He was a baby, and was practically a MacGuffin in that movie. I don't see how that would have any bearing on the quality of a movie filmed two decades later that featured the same character all grown up as a nod to continuity, with an actual personality, and fulfilling a specific role as one of the members of the GB team.

This movie will never be made, Bill Murphy seems to rather get hit by a truck than make GB3.

However if the movie is ever made Donald Glover would be awesome in it!

I can see Justin Hartley AKA. Green Arrow as Oscar. He's definitely in that age bracket and has the skills. Not to mention the blonde hair.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe I'm being a little harsh on it. I still don't really like the idea of him being a member of the Ghostbusters though. If there's one thing though, it's that Oscar wouldn't remember what happened as a kid, so that would be a way to refer to it as little as possible and just move on.

No "Extreme Ghostbusters" the animated series had all new characters that Egon recruited to become Ghostbusters. There have been rumors that a third movie though would follow this type of story...

The funny thing is I don't even think this story was confirmed or denied by anyone involved with the movie lol.

As I said at the beginning of the thread, this isn't news -- Sigourney Weaver first revealed the "Oscar as Ghostbuster" plot in an interview in November or December of 2009.

In any event, I really, really hope this movie doesn't get made. The most recent comment we've heard on it is Bill Murray's GQ interview earlier this summer, in which he said that after Year One was an abomination and everyone realized Eisenberg and Stupnitsky were not exactly talented comedy writers, that idea was dead in the water. Columbia still desperately wants Ghostbusters 3, because the studio sees it as an easily exploitable franchise (hand over the reins to a malleable director, get a young, cheap cast, give five minutes of screentime to the old actors to lend the story some legitimacy, and then cash in for the next ten years), but there's a reason that this movie has been on-and-off since 1992.

Yet he also said in that article that if there was ever a good script (and I think that was typed in italics for emphasis) presented to him he would be interested. It's obvious that nothing has piqued his interest. I don't really blame him, the story ideas that have been revealed or leaked so far haven't been great at all imo.

Boy, is this ever getting old-why not just make Extreme Ghostbusters (or Ghostbusters: Generation II) and be done with it? If Murray doesn't want to be Pete, then he doesn't have to be Pete. Oscar can take over, with a girlfriend played by the actress that I suggested, and the other new 'Busters can be the Extreme Ghostbusters guys (and gal). Let's get this party started, already!
