Estranged Love Child the Newest 'Ghost Buster'?!

Dusty Ayres

Commodore
Apologies if this has already been posted....

Oh boy do we have a scoop that has still got me in a daze! It's no secret that Columbia Pictures' Ghostbusters 3 - being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky - will introduce a new team of young Ghost Busters that will have proton packs, PKE meters and the famed Ecto-1 passed on to them by Egon, Peter, Ray, and Winston (Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, respectively). Early reports indicate that the quartet have signed on, and are in fact ready to pass the torch to some youngins -- but it's what we learned that truly gives the story some much-needed depth. Details inside.

Estranged Love Child the Newest 'Ghost Buster'?!

Hope that I'll be around to see this....:techman:

It certainly makes more sense than Mutt in Indiana Jones, since we've already seen Oscar. Didn't Ghostbusters II already heavily hint that he was Peter's son?

Sure, why not. Cast an appealing actor with comic talent in the role and it could work just fine. Getting Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver back would be an added bonus.

Who should play Oscar? I'd take a look at Evan Peters (Kick-Ass, Invasion), who has a highly likable persona and can do both drama and comedy well. Speaking of Kick-Ass, why not add Christopher Mintz-Plasse as a Ghostbuster as well? He could be Moranis' son, if it isn't too science fictional to think that Louis Tully might have had sex with an actual woman once. :rommie:

Since Egon blew off Janine in the second movie, why not indeed? I believe that this is the love child of Janine and Louis, conceived as a result of marriage, or as the result of a one-night-stand between them, or maybe (*gasp*) the love child of Janine and Egon!

So Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Egon's son? That works, too. Poor guy. :rommie:

Well then, let's complete the set with daughters for Ray and Winston, played by Kristen Bell and Dana Davis respectively. We've gotta have some competent ass-kickers in the gang.

Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Ghostbusters II featured Oscar heavily, and it sucked. I think it was also pretty much confirmed that Venkman was the father. Much of this just seems like a fan rumour. Is Andy Dick too old for the part? He was the one who immediately struck me as someone who could play Oscar. Hmm, looking him up, I guess he is too old, but he strikes me as someone who'd fit in the franchise pretty well.

Oh geez, you are baaad!:rommie::rofl:

Sigourney Weaver first reported the "Oscar as Ghostbuster" story idea last year.

In any event, the Eisenberg / Stupnitsky-penned script is, according to Bill Murray, dead in the water and development on the film has flatlined again.

Apparentally Ramis doesn't want to make the same mistakes Crystal Skull made in the "old heroes" genre.

I personally have mixed feelings about a "Ghostbusters: The Next Generation" project, although it arguably worked with the cartoons. Kind of enjoyed the recent video game but it largely felt like a retread of the films.

If Ramis wanted to avoid mistakes, he wouldn't have spent a year trying force the writers of motherfucking Year One down everyone else's throat.

Crystal Skull's 'mistakes' are in the minds of the jaded people who wanted to find fault with it the same way they found fault with the Star Wars prequel trilogy. I'm sorry, but they can be forgotten and not paid any heed.

The only way this franchise will survive is if there will be a 'Next Generation'-this is what David Putnam tried to have happen, but he was punched in the face and booted in the ass, and that lead to Ghostbusters II.

 You're so insecure and hypocritical with your constant need to put down anyone who disagrees with you for daring to have a negative opinion, while being equally critical of things you don't like all the time. If you like those films and don't care about the mistakes, more power to you. But it takes some real self-delusion to think that they're beyond criticism and don't have mistakes at all (which putting mistakes in quotes implies).

I don't particularly care for Crystal Skulls, but I still enjoyed the SW prequels despite them being a mess. I'm not going to start declaring people that find fault with them jaded and unworthy of being listened to, though. You need to relax and realize that not everyone has to be in lockstep with your personal likes and dislikes.

As far as Ghostbusters 3 goes, it's too early to get any real sense of where it's going, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Using Oscar makes sense as a plot device to pass the torch.

Andy Dick couldn't play the contents of Oscar's soiled diapers.

Yeah, having Andy Dick in the role would likely turn more people away from seeing the film than bring them in. Generally not a good idea if you want your movie to be a success.

Hmm, ok, probably not then. No clue why he popped into my head when I saw the role. In that case, I vote for Chris Pine.

I'm not any of what you said: I'm just tired of people giving Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls (and by extension, the Star Wars prequel trilogy) a hard time. This story was the best Indiana Jones story told in quite a while, considering the age of the actor, the time passed, and the difficulty it too to get a good film script written. People couldn't see that, and instead dump all over it, even going so far as to beat up on Shia LeBouf for how bad it was. If that rumples a few feathers, I'm sorry, but that's how I call it.

Same here, but they should also get a bunch of younger 'Busters to help him, too; I'd say getting the Extreme bunch might be a good idea.

Great choice; I agree.

Who should play Oscar?
Isn't it obvious? Shia LaBeouf, of course!

Why not? Another good choice as well. I'd throw in Christy Carlson Romano as his girlfriend/fellow 'Buster; they had such good chemistry together on Even Stevens.

It was the only Indiana Jones story told in quite a while, at least in the feature-film format, so that's kind of a trivial assertion.

Kim Possible as a Ghostbuster? Awesome.

Indeed. Every time I hear Andy Dick's name I think that if not for him and his habitual use of cocaine that Phil Hartman might still be alive today.

I never got the impression that Oscar was their love child...unless Dana did a Carol Marcus and kept Oscar away from Peter and lied on top of it, I think Peter would be pissed about that especially the way Dana and his relationship went and all the grief that Dana had given him about his antics during their relationship. I realize that we pretty much only got a throwaway line about their relationship. Now if they wanted to have Oscar as the lead is fine and introduce a character that is actually Peter and Dana's son explaining that they got married at the end of Ghostbusters II and had a son together that's fine as well. This movie has been in development hell for so long now I'm starting to doubt it will ever happen.
