I'm probably reading waaaaaay too much into this, but according to the historical Nero wiki (and what better source is there in the world, really?), "Nero's father was described by Suetonius as a murderer and a cheat who was charged by emperor Tiberius with treason, adultery, and incest. Tiberius died allowing him to escape these charges." Yes, Tiberius.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't really respond to the film itself, but he was excellent for his part.

Oh, please. It is no more cartoony sounding than "Khan", "Odo", "Spock", "Ilia", "V'ger", or any other of the goofy-ass names we have in "Star Trek."
It all depends on the character and how he is played and written. If it is done lamely...then the name will continually be mocked. If it is done well and he turns out to be a good villain, then the name will be automatically accepted and won't make a difference at all.
Also...I wonder if this is meant to be the "Rogue Starfleet Captain" that has been rumored about.
Garner has never been approached to be in it. That's nothing but rumor, isn't it?
