episodes that could be their own movies [possible spoilers in replies]

From the six Star Trek TV series, which of the 700+ episodes do you think are good enough (or should I say, has a big enough story) to be their own movies?

I've only seen Star Trek: The Animated Series, so I can't really answer this question for the other series (aside from one or two episodes). Speaking of which, I don't think any of the episodes in TAS have enough content to be their own feature length films, although the series finale ("The Counter-Clock Incident") would have made a good two-part episode.

I always wanted to actually see the background story from The Conscience of the King, i.e. the crisis that made Governor Kodos turn into Kodos the Executioner and young Kirk's and the other Enterprise officer's experiences during this. I think you could expand the story to a 90 minute film.

In a Mirror Darkly. It's so outside the normal Enterprise series, it's like a movie on its own.

Also, Menagerie in TOS.

Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast from DS9.

the other officer was Kevin O'Reilly. That would be a good story, yes.

Most people point out how similar TOS "The Changeling" is to TMP but I have never seen anyone comment on the similarities between TAS "One of Our Planets is Missing" and TMP. In both the cartoon and movie a large cloud in space devours objects in its path and threatens an inhabited Federation planet. The Enterprise enters the cloud and Spock mind melds with the consciousness located at the heart of the cloud.

A lot of the episodes from the later seasons of all the series would have benefited from the theatrical treatment. At that point in the series', the characters are already fleshed out and fully formed. DS9 probably did the best job of mitigating this by having multiple part episodes.

ST: Insurrection is the type of movie that probably would have worked better as an episode than as a movie, sadly.

Justice (Season One)
A classic Trek episode that would have been perfect for the big screen. The planet of the Edo could have been made larger and even more luxurious, and the Edo could have been made to look even more god-like and perfect. And speaking of gods, the god ship could have also gone through a big makeover, and a subplot involving an away team beaming onboard the ship and exploring it could have also been written into the story.
Just a thought. I'm sure we could come up with even more ways to enhance and enlarge the story. I know this isn't one of the more popular episodes, but it's one of my personal favorites from the first season so I thought I'd list it as a potential.

Balance of Terror could have been fleshed out into a two hour story, more flashy FX, nice use of secondary characters, command angst. Dig a little more into the Romulans.

Enterprise Incident, punch up the espionage aspect, maybe a Red October feel.

Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast from DS9.
You need to think of how much you would have to explain the back story to a general movie audience. A story where you can simply launch into the tell, and have a Star Trek ignorant audience (they've seen sci-fi before) grab onto the basic themes right from the first minute is a better choice.

Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast maybe not.

:)

The feature lengths such as BoBW are movies essentially.

Dragon's Teeth could've benefited from being longer.

Year of Hell would get my vote.
