Episode you think is better than you remembered

Before watching an episode there might be episodes you think
A) this is a really good one.... or ....B) last time this one sucked

But then you are happily surprised that either a good one is even better than you remembered or an episode you think might not be that good turned out great?

I thought I'd ask this because while I know both parts of 'The Best Of Both Worlds' are good, today it was just pure awesomeness. I go through my favourite episodes of TNG once a year and these episodes were even better I remembered. I want to watch them again, right now.

Too bad I have to wait about a year, I don't want to learn the episodes inside out.

This question could go both ways, was something weaker than you remembered but I thought lets focus on nice things. =)

Reunion. I mean, I always thought it was good. But watching it on blu-ray, the direction and lighting are fantastic. It's a stonker of an episode.

Writing the WAMs for the season one episodes has changed my views of several of them, as many that are weak in terms of the story can be great for other things. Case in point was "Angel One", which is hardly going to be anyone's favourite episodes - but it has the best matte paintings in season one! It really impressed me on the technical side, even if the story is still basically scenery chewing nonsense.

Case in point was "Angel One", which is hardly going to be anyone's favourite episodes - but it has the best matte paintings in season one! It really impressed me on the technical side, even if the story is still basically scenery chewing nonsense.

All the characters had quite a bit of time on screen in "Angel One".

The storyline in "Booby Trap" that isn't about Geordi is quite good, which I had forgotten, so the episode was better than I remembered.

I have a soft spot for this episode... I generally enjoy the "archaeological threat" stories.

I'm guessing you love "Masks" then. It's one of my favourites. Picard's hobby being archaeology is so random and I love when the writers managed to make stories where it was relevant.

I think at least Picard has an interest in history from Season 1 onwards and in Season 3 there’s all the archaeology hijinks with Vash in Captain’s Holiday. It’s not that random.

Final Mission. It's pretty darn good. Nobody ever talks about it. It's about Wes. It's a simple survival plot. It just flies under the radar. It might be one of the few Wes episodes I actually like.

Because I'm not a huge Riker fan, I always remember his episodes as being less than they actually are, Future Imperfect, Second Chances, Frame of Mind... even The Vengeance Factor is better than I remember it. I still may not be much of a Riker fan, but Frakes has (some) times when he's really good on the show. I kind of feel the same way about Reg & Realm of Fear.

I confess, I have not watched season seven for many, many years, as it's probably my least favourite season (most of my rewatching has traditionally run from season 3 through to season 6). But I'm rewatching all the episodes for the WAM newsletters, so I'll get a chance to encounter these stories with entirely fresh eyes - although I won't get to season seven for another couple of years.

Thoroughly agree! It feels a little by-the-numbers, but after "First Duty" it's probably my favourite Wesley episode... and "favourite Wesley episode" is a phrase I don't utter often.

You can look forward to "The Pegasus", "Lower Decks" and "Preemptive Strike". I don't think season 7 is bad, I think TNG changed a lot from beginning to end. In particular, Deanna was a lot more interesting in the later seasons - I thought she was brilliant in "Eye of the Beholder".

Aye, I'm looking forward to it all - even "Sub Rosa", which I remember as monumentally bad. But I can enjoy bad episodes just as much as good episodes these days - which has made watching season one for the WAMs way more fun than I thought it was going to be!

Say what you want about "Angel One", it gave us a realistic perspective of how a society deals with gender inequality. As opposed to "Ishka waves her magic wand and POOF! Ferengi women go from being basically livestock to full equality".

Ha ha ha! Aye, you get to see a whole three nipples in that episode - one of Riker's, and both of Picard's. I guess that does count for something!
