SPOILER ALERT: Obviously, some The Rise of Skywalker spoilers may seep in...

C'mon, we all know the Skywalker Saga isn't going anywhere with the 50th Anniversary of the franchise just around the corner.

So, where do you think we are headed with Rey Skywalker? Will she be the ruler of the galaxy in some dark dystopian future? Will some distant relative of the Skywalker blood make their way to the civilized galaxy to challenge Rey for her throne?

Discuss!

@DigificWriter, we know what the official word is now. This is just a bit of fun at possible futures of the franchise.

If they do eventually go back to sequel trilogy characters, I would like to see Rey trying to build up a new Jedi Order. We already have her first recruit with Finn, and maybe she could end up tracking down broom boy from The Rise of Skywalker.
I'd want to see some new Dark Side group without any kind of Empire/First Order connection introduced as our bad guys.

I think the only one of my desires that wasn't completely quashed by Rise of Skywalker is the idea that Rey learns from the mistakes of the Jedi and the Sith and forms a school of new force users that aren't bound to light and dark.

Since those arms dealers are out there eagerly wanting clients, I imagine some redesigned Republic/Empire/First Order clone with slightly different ships shows up with a new super-weapon to threaten the galaxy. Maybe if Ian McDiarmid is still alive they'll drag him out again since evidently the entire saga is his fault.

Personally I don't want the First Order to go away quite yet. RoS was quite rushed in showing us how they were defeated, I'd like to think Thrawn stages a return and grabs command of them to truly make them into a threat. The Resistance was too early celebrating.

But that's wishful thinking of trying to fix the damage Rise of Skywalker has done to the saga.

I would be happy if we never saw the First Order or any of the new characters again. Not that I dislike the characters, well I didn't like Poe very much, it's just that I don't see them as being necessary to moving the story forward. Have a significant time jump and start fresh.

Clearly Rey is going to continue to push her Evil Feminist Agenda to the point of founding a new Jedi order consisting only of WOMEN. NON-WHITE WOMEN at that, because the title of this movie is of course The Force is Woke. Non-white guys will be present in the form of the non-Force using good guys. But rest assured, they'll still be led by a FEMALE AUTHORITY FIGURE. The only white men in this movie will be the bad guys, because Kathleen Kennedy's EVIL AGENDA.

;)

I'm looking forward to it.

One thing I really think the series needs to do is move away from the bigger and badder threats. I can see wanting to go huge for The Rise of Skywalker, but I think that and Starkiller are pretty much as big as you can go without getting totally ridiculous.

ANy hope of Thrawn or or the Yuzhann Vong (forgive the spelling... i never read the novels and cant flip to google)?

The TROS final battle was kinda disappointing.... it would be nice to have a real detailed battle.

Have you read the novels? Giant superweapons are a dime a dozen in the GFFA.

My biggest hope is that they plan out the next trilogy.
I can see Finn coming back as some sort of Jedi Master. I think Daisy Ridley won't come back as she sounds like she is done with the franchise. Luke's lightsaber will make a return for the next generation. I hope the story has nothing to do with the empire and is something completely fresh and unrelated to any resistance or rebels.

There's always going to be something else. I think it would be fantastic to show Rey and Finn again. Or just how the Force is maybe being spread out differently. New schools of thought. Force families rather than abstinent monks.

The whole galaxy can't be in danger again. Or at least yeah, not with a superweapon.I think a good threat would be the Grysk. They're the new Vong. Bring back Thrawn and the Chiss and actually pick up the threads of Zahn's latest trilogy.

I think we jump another period of years forward in time. Enough that we could see ST characters if the actors want to return, but it isn't a necessity. I think if you're going to use one of them as the major torch passer it should be Finn, but that's just because I want someone to look offscreen, say "Oh, Master Skywalker!" and then we pan over to Finn (now Skywalker, because if Rey can so can Finn, dammit).

The galaxy is unsettled. After the seeming fall of yet another Republic during the ST, the planets and systems have grown weary of galaxy wide governance. A multitude of smaller conglomerates and federations have emerged, competing with each other for resources and influence. This has bred conflict, and the galaxy is once again on the edge of a major war.

Rey's Jedi have abandoned temples and schools. No more stealing children. Instead, they've adopted a variation of the Sith Rule of Two, though obviously with a light side bent. All Jedi training is done solely within the relationship between a single master and a single apprentice. Two people connecting with each other. When an apprentice is knighted, both master and former student take new apprentices and the cycle repeats. It's slow going, and even after all this time has passed there are only a handful of fully trained masters and knights. But each pair trains by wandering the galaxy, meeting people and getting involved in the lives and troubles of the citizens of the galaxy. Think the television series Kung Fu, but with Jedi. Essentially, this new Jedi Order isn't apart from people, or distanced from them. It's heart is service and community. It's less a rigid construct than a loose web. They don't serve a singular Republic, but all equally. Which hasn't exactly enamored them to some of the new factions that have emerged.

And whatever the threat it, it isn't the Sith. It can be somebody new using ancient Sith artifacts or weapons, but just leave the Sith be. I'd like to see the Jedi confront a problem they can't just hack apart with their lightsabers (at least for the first film, it can build to some kind of rising darkness down the road if they want).

If it is to continue (which I'm sure it will), I want something different, no Jedi, no Sith. As much as I enjoyed TROS I came away with this feeling that the franchise is just getting repetitive, with hidden parents/children (that reveal themselves to suit plots of the films), endless easily defeatable super weapons, crushing victories seemingly for nothing etc

Much like Star Trek it's a broad universe to play around in. I think Star Wars needs a rest, or it's going to cease to be special, which is already happening, and worse, if we don't see some sort of rest or fresh start for the franchise, it's in danger of becoming stale.

If we are talking "Episode X" then it has to be connected to something that came before. If they do something completely different then don't call it episode X. I think some aspects will need to remain. Force users, the Falcon, lightsaber. No more empire or first order types though.

If we have another episode featuring Rey etc then will that be yet another 'final' victory that's been for nothing? I think the main saga needs to be done. Finished. The next film whatever it is needs to be something new in my opinion - I don't mind it being something that's tied to the events of the main saga, like Rogue One was, but I don't see where the saga can really go from here, TROS was pretty final (and utterly OTT), I don't really want any more of that if I'm being honest.

If it takes on a new direction then I for one don't see a problem. I'd however like to avoid the Vong. Maybe have an actual internal political struggle within whatever the new government -- a real civil war or something.

Yes it would need to be something different, in a new direction with new planets, characters etc, I wouldn't be adverse to Rey or Finn or any of the ST characters appearing, but this rebels v empire, Jedi v Sith story needs a REST.

I think it requires a smaller story too. My issue, particularly by the time we got to TRoS is there were just too many damned characters. So, have two or three new main characters. Bring back Rey, Finn, Poe, but have them be in very supporting roles. As much as I love BB-8 and D-O, let them go, or give them teeny parts. Have Artoo, Threepio and Chewie support the new main characters. Have two "bad guys" and let that be it. No Rose (as much as I think she was shafted in TRoS). No Jannah (because she really was pointless). Maybe Connix as a background character. Just keep it simple. Just my thought.
