The only thing I like about it is the ending. The idea that these two annoying jackasses are going to battle each other for eternity makes me satisfied. These dorks deserve each other.

Simple plot answer: sane Lazarus just has to phaser himself out of existence and the problem is solved. Or Kirk can phaser nutjob Lazarus out of existence. With either gone, neither can meet outside the "corridor" and universe saved.

This is one of those TOS episodes where everyone involved does their best to elevate some seriously poorly written material. I would rank it higher than several geniuinely bad TOS stories.

Though late out of the gate on this one, and having missed the poll, I don't rate this one as poorly as most others do. Its a hot mess of sorts to me, plot holes and disjointed as it may be. Lt. Leslie is shown, another side of the Enterprise is shown, Engineering is hinted to be much more vast than originally figured by this viewer and we got a talented and beautiful guest star in a role that suggests Scotty had more than just a team of masculine red shirts just under his charge.

Besides, the animated struggle between Lazarus and Kirk is classically comical....with the security guards holding back laughter and our lead awkwardly shows us some MMA stuff as he looks to save the galaxy.

I'm going to watch this one tonight, as it has been years, but off of sheer memory alone....it gets a 6....because it is after all, classic Trek.

:techman:

Agreed-- Janet MacLachlan's performance as Lt. Charlene Masters was not the average supporting role; one would think she was intended for more appearances (considering her sharp her character), but was a missed opportunity. I've said it elsewhere, but she would have made a fine addition to the cast, portrayed as a serious female officer just as effective as any of the bridge crew.

The costumer apparently didn't read the script, and assumed that Masters was not an officer. She didn't have lieutenant's stripes, while the man she was ordering around did.

If MacLachlan had been recurring, Nichelle Nichols probably would have considered her a threat. Actors can get territorial in that situation.

I would sure like to have seen more of this other female...

...but if anybody should have become a regular, it was Marianna Hill as Helen Noel. She could even have replaced McCoy and I'd be fine with it.

Alright...I know she's pretty popular around these parts, but that's just crazy talk.

Indeed she does, Feek61 :)

Maybe this is why Star Trek is so interesting, for it seems there always questions and more questions about everything!

For instance, in Feek61's photo, I am again reminded about those ubiquitous coffee cups...
Are they painted styrofoam, with a strip of black border tape around the top edge? That seems like an awful lot of work for a mere cup. And they did it consistently throughout the series, I believe.
Why not just a cup? I don't mean one with 'no coffee, no workee' on it or anything, but just plain, simple, handled cups?

This episode lends itself to use as a drinking game. Every time Lazarus falls, or you see that star cluster photo--take a swig.

The program opened strong. When I heard the term invasion, and Starfleet getting in a huff--that is when the photoshop guys need to break out footage of Star Destroyers, popping into space like the Bozeman did before it hit the Enterprise-D nacelle.

No Jetson saucer please--that should have went to Lost in Space.
