Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

If this bothered you this much, the scene in the trailer with the Resistance fighters riding Orbachs on the Star Destroyer must have made made you completely lose it.
I'm sure that's the top reason to not watch this movie ;)

They're on the surface of a planet
uh no look at the shots, they are on the star destroyer surface.. with many star destroyers in the background. Which means they are in space or in the upper atmosphere of the planet. Certainly not the "surface"

And people complain about me not paying attention

The presence of all those star destroyers doesn't mean for a second they're in the upper atmosphere or space. We've seen in two different SW films star destroyers either taking off from the surface or hovering just above it.

You see shots of star destroyers in the trailer rising up from underground/water.

They’re in atmosphere. Or else you know, they’d be suffocating.

Also the First Order Star Destroyer they’re riding on is a lot lower than all the others. In the Sky.

It seems to me like there is some sort of atmosphere out there. Im betting this is a dock or a shipyard relatively low to the ground.

Have been re-watching all Star Wars movies in the run up to Episode IX. Just done with Episode III. Palpatine must have solved the mystery of how to overcome death that he discussed with Anakin in episode III.

Well, he did say his master had discovered that secret before he killed him. Palpatine definitely had time to keep going on figuring it out after ROTS.

^ Despite leading Anakin to believe otherwise, Palpatine did not learn Plagueis' secrets.

If he had, he wouldn't have needed to access the World Between Worlds.

We don't know how Palpatine physically survived the destruction of the second Death Star, only that he did, and I don't think we will get those answers in The Rise of Skywalker (although we might in a comic book series or novel).

I did not say he learned all of Palgueis' secrets. Only that he had time to continue trying to figure it out, and I agree we will get the answers in the film or tie in material.

Either way, with Operation: Cinder, and the obsession with defeating death, I don't see Palps giving upon his ambition and trying to find ways to keep himself around. Certainly the EU is full of Sith spirits bound to different places, Yavin IV temple, among others. Even the Jedi Temple was built over a Dark Side site in legends, and Starkiller had to face a phantom Darth Phobos in the ruins.

Lots of ways to cheat death in this universe is all I'm saying.

We don't even know for sure if he physically survived, just that some part of him is still around.

We do.

Spoiler leaks, the trailers, and comments from JJ and others pretty much cement his return in physical form.

Well, spoiler leaks can be incorrect. Besides...
...the one photo we potentially have of him is so lo-fi and so far away, how do we know its actually him? Granted, apparently he does appear in an Alamo Drafthouse glass.

The trailers go pretty far to not show his face. Why are they hiding that?

As for JJ comments, I'm not aware of any comments that he's made that have specifically said Palpatine did not die and is returning in a physical form. Am I missing something? If so, posting an actual quote and not vaguely referencing it would be helpful, thanks.

I'm not saying he's not coming back in the physical form. He probably is. I, personally, would prefer it if there was another explanation. That's just me. But let's not suggest definitely something that's not definitive.
