Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

If you pause when the Y-wing is blasting the Tie fighters in front of the Star destroyer, you see some new heavy cannon setup mounted on the underside of the destroyer. This lends credence to some of the rumors about the movie.

I was with the trailer until I saw a cavalry charge on "horses". That thing died hard in World War II, and I do not know why people would think it would be an effective strategy in a futurist world. Worse, they are riding horses over a ship in an atmosphere/space.

I have a feeling that many of the rumors might come true. A JJ Adams film without rehashing is inconceivable.

It's a fantasy world, built upon the idea of lower-tech defeating superior tech, akin to Dune and Lord of the Rings. This isn't a "futurist world." It's space fantasy that utilizes swords as much as laser guns.

Besides, SW was already a rehash ;)

That trailer is so boring.

I can't believe this is the third movie in four years, they're acting like its the "end of a saga" but who really cares about any of these characters? I can't even remember any of their names apart from Rey and all the characters we care about were systemically killed off, so now they're throwing PALPATINE at us? Who fucking died? It seems the last two movies set out to undo everything positive that happened in the OT. I hate it.

Considering how large her character is on the poster, we still know basically nothing about Keri Russel's character, even from the leaks.
I like that fact. Personally, this is one of the view films that I feel pretty balanced with spoilers and still having limited information. I really want to go in to this and just enjoy it.

I do.

Yet you are obsessed with watching it.

I admit that Last Jedi made me so mad it's prejudicing me against this movie. I don't trust them one bit. The first two movies basically took a giant dump on the original trilogy.

Worse, when C3PO said that line about his friends, I realized that I don't care one bit about any of the new characters. I don't care about Rey--who somehow became the most powerful Jedi ever with no training just because "girl power/woke." I don't care about Kylo, the whiny millennial who would be annoying whether he turns to the light or the dark. I don't care about Finn to the point where I practically forgot he was in the movie. I don't care about Rose, who seems to be the Jar Jar of this trilogy.

I do care about the original characters, but I'm so disgusted with how this trilogy has treated them, that I don't expect any of them to survive.

The trailer was typical JJ Abrams--lots of bells and whistles, but no substance. I care about a plot. I didn't see one here.

JJ may not have learned any lessons from his mistakes. This is a man who in Star Trek, used Khan and didn't advertise him. In Episode 7, we were promised the return of Luke, Leia and Han, and then they left Luke out of all advertising material. We found out that Luke was only in the movie for the last 10 seconds. Talk about a bait and switch.

Turned out that was better than how they ACTUALLY used him in Last Jedi. But once again--where is Luke?

I guess maybe this time, I should root for less Luke, though it's hard to imagine they butcher him more.

JJ doesn't understand that you should reveal some sort of plot in a trailer. He doesn't understand what a spoiler is.

"Khan comes back to take revenge on Kirk and crew." That's not a spoiler.

"Spock dies." That's a spoiler.

My best case scenario is that I will see this movie, and I will, and because of my ultra low expectations, will find I like it better than I thought. That does happen sometimes.

I had no expectations for Star Trek Beyond and felt it was a little better than Into Darkness.

But I still feel that the best Star Wars was Clone Wars and Rebels since Disney took over. This trilogy has been very disappointing. This trailer didn't really do anything to excite me about the film, though admittedly, the music was terrific.

Not a bad strategy. I was disappointed with TLJ at the theaters, but it was more palatable second time watching at home. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, I know.

Much as I love Ian Mcdiarmid as Palpatine and bounced around the room after the end of the first trailer, experience has taught me to temper my expectations. I'll stick with 'moderate' for now.

But say what you want, that brief shot of the Millennium Falcon heading the rebel fleet was jaw dropping. If nothing else, I'm expecting one hell of a space battle. Or should I say... atmosphere battle, seeing as they've got an alien cavalry charge on the hull of a ship mid battle ... WTF!?

You lost me at “girl power/woke.”
He's kinda right in a way. Disney made 3 movies just so a woman could save the day instead of a man. The galaxy is in the exact same state as it was in ROTJ. TFA was a re-hash of ANH and this will be very similar to ROTJ. TLJ was some sort of aberration better to never be spoken of.

You do know that George Lucas had planned to have a female lead in the sequel trilogy? As for TLJ, we are all entitled to our opinions.
