Spoilers Episode 13 Preview Images

I was reading the TrekToday article and it looks like Poe is coming back. I'm going to be happy to see her.

There is nothing wrong with this, seeing as how we have had several auxiliary craft and one man craft shown in Star Trek, from the Academy trainers, to the Peregrine fight craft and Maquis raiders, which apparently had a variety of sizes.

I never understood the objection to such things.

I should clarify that, i don't care about federation fighters, just pointing out how 'diverse' the fanbase can be.

I like Anson Mount's tweet of the radiation accident shoot. Were the binders that say "Starfleet Training" visible in the shot? I'll have to rewatch.

Also, I'm curious why the training vessel also has "STARFLEET TRAINING" written on the wall...

Because it is for training?

Shouldn't that be festooned on the outside of the ship, not the inside though? Just like how (in the U.S. anyway) cars being driven by student drivers usually have decals noting this all over them to ensure that other drivers give them a wide berth.

It's a warning to any senior officers who come on board.

I take that as a Star Trek vs. Star Wars thing in fandom.

Are flight simulators emblazoned with signs that say "FLIGHT SIMULATOR!!!!", as if you'd mistake them for the real thing?
Possibly. Given how well Starfleet officers some times behave they might need the directions ;)

Perhaps. I have no idea. Most of the time in Star Trek fan art and fiction I've seen plenty of starfighters across every time period for Trek.

Might be a training ship is a regular ship doing training duty, in which case temporary signage stating e.g. "This reactor isn't actually producing power today" or "This airlock doesn't actually open today" would be sorta vital. Might be a training ship is dedicated to training, not just through having a few classrooms and extra accommodation and whatnot, but also through having dummy engines and guns for safe practical exercises. Might be Pike more-or-less-died aboard a Crossfield that was either temporarily assigned training duty or was converted for such. Might be Crossfields are considered Class J, might be the conversions of assorted ships to this job are considered Class J, might be Pike was teaching the J class. In any case, signage is fun!

Oh, and as for the DS9 fighters, those were called "attack" craft specifically. In today's USAF parlance, this denotes a ground attack role - that is, the aircraft that "attack" are no good for fighting other aircraft. But antiship attack would not be out of the question, either, even if USAF today has no such capacity.

We could argue that Starfleet uses this terminology, too. Certainly the Maquis think their two attack craft uniquely suited for bombarding a Cardassian ground target in "The Maquis", despite the organization demonstrably possessing other craft at that point, including ones they used against other spacecraft earlier in the episode. So we can make two opposite assumptions: one, that since these craft are only good for ground attacks, they are disadvantaged against the capital ships they are sent to harrass; or two, that since these craft are dedicated to attacking large targets, they are at their element when going against capital ships. Either way, we see them achieve basically nothing, even though full-sized starships subsequently have immediate results on the same targets.

No "attack" on the DSC fighters...

Might be a good idea to find out how many Crossfields we're to believe have been built however many decades ago. (I'm inclined to say c. 2210-2220 CE.)
