I thought of that, too. Four years, this is her first assignment out of the Academy.

Something akin to microwave stirrers, I'm guessing. It's not pretty when someone dematerialises unevenly.

I'm thinking the same thing. Kind of a subtle nod to the evolution of the transporter. I always thought the sound you hear most prominently in "The Cage", but not as loudly through TOS were those starting their cycle.

The article talks about Captain Lorca squinting at the Discovery's viewscreen. So does Discovery have a viewscreen, or do they call the bridge window (like what the Shenzhou has) a viewscreen?
