I suspect that if this movie was given a bilion dollar budget....

Throwing money at something doesn't make it better (i.e. Pluto Nash, Evan Almighty, Staw Wars PT).

...if Gene Roddenberry came back from the dead to give it his personal blessing,

Oh please, Rottenberry was a hack with no real talent of vision. His ideas were flawed and his scripts were pure crap! His interference is what helped produce the worst episodes of Trek.

if miraculous technology was used to revert the TOS crew to the ages they were 40 years ago so they could star in it,

OH THE HORROR! It's bad enough seeing The Shat old and fat, but when they digitally made him younger for that one commercial not too long ago I almost lost my lunch. It was horrid!

Captaindemotion said:
that if Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron and Ridley Scott co-directed it, if the script was written or worked on by a score of Oscar winning writers,

None of that would happen since no A-list talent would touch a failed TV franchise like this. Robert Wise gave it a go once and look how that turned out.

then you'd still predict in advance how much it was going to stink.

Yep. Star Trek's time has come and gone. Like the dinosaurs, it's a failed project that had its time in the sun and now needs to remain extinct. The very premise is flawed and out-of-date. Any attempt to resurrect it will be met with failure.

Well, at least I was right!

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

All I know is, unless they put REALLY BIG GUNS on the ship, the movie will suck. Because everything sucks. Hey, it's just my opinion guys.

Scott Chambliss is the Production Designer.

Yea, I was googling around and found some info on him. Interesting style and I can't wait to see what he does for Star Trek. I found an interesting interview with him on a project of his ...

The Re-Animated Corpse of Gene Roddenberry is such a has been! This film will be a FLOP!

Then what about a Zombie. Just feed him brains and everything will be fine.

Besides, I never listen to people involved with a movie as to whether the movie itself is good. If you're involved it's always good. Even if it is Nemisis.

It would appear that you participation here is simply to cause ill will. Have you no interest in the next Star Trek project?

---------------
He just sucks the joy out of it by thinking it's old and should be put out to pasture. I don't get why people would think that Trek is outdated. And even if it is (and it probably is somewhat) that doesn't mean someone can come along and revitalize it, update it for more modern audiences and still be true to Star Trek. Many Trek values are timeless.

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

After seeing the effects in Transformers, I have absolute faith in ILM. The movie will, if nothing else, look amazing.

When I first heard of the project I thought it was a desperate attempt by Paramount to squeeze the last few dimes out of a dying franchise, but I also held out a slim amount of hope that they would be smart and do a total reboot a la BSG. Trek has been crippled by the 40 odd years of canon (most of it insipidly horrid) to ever make a compelling story. But then when they announced it would be a prequel and honor existing canon, I knew the project was doomed.

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

What if it's a prequel which marches, jackbooted and steel toecapped, all over existing canon? Wouldn't that be fun?

The Enterprise, or "Enterprise" Enterprise?

If it's the former, then that's hardly surprising. If it's the latter, then they've just lost a ticket sale.

Nothing indicates that the NX-01 is to appear... by what is at Trekmovie.com I think we're made to believe that its the 1701.

Sharr

Good so it's THE Enterprise. Not just Enterprise. Good!!

I'll say I enjoyed "Enterprise" sometimes... though I can't think of a good reason but for continuity porn to even mention it or anything else tangantil to Star Trek. Give me the 1701, Kirk, Spock, and maybe Dr. Piper and Gary Mitchell and send them on an adventure. That will make me happy.

ILM - Okay I can relax now, next up, who's playing whom or is that still up in the air ?

* Seriously ILM can do good work if they have a lot of time to do prep work, don't rush them through and things will be just fine, you'll see *

Yeah, as a fan of ENT I'd love to see the NX-01 making a brief cameo (or, even better, an appearance of a very old Trip Tucker to prove once and for all that he's NOT ... well, you know.)

But given the fact that the ENT fanbase is so tiny and the general public has virtually no awareness of the show, well, it wouldn't make much sense to feature anything in what they hope will be a mainstream blockbuster type movie.

Great, ILM working on the Enterprise again. That'S another mark up for this movie.

Not quite. This is actually a big mark down for the movie.

ILM has produced some of the crappiest SFX in the last ten years, namely the "special editions" of the OT and the abortion that was the PT, not to mention the horrible Mummy movies as examples. ILM was once the top FX house in the world, but they fell prey to their own hype and now produce sub-par work. These days Weta Digital, Digital Domain and Zoic give them a good run for their money.

Lookie here, it's Mr. Fly! Or do you prefer "Sir Troll?"

And if ILM hasn't done anything good, you obviously haven't seen Transformers. Of course, you will probably rant against that too, since that's all you're capable of.

Clearly Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, Batman, Superman, The Simpsons, Vanessa Redgrave, Tori Spelling, Spiderman, and The Transformers are all dated and need to be put to pasture as well.

They all had their day in the sun, whether it was in comic books or 80s acting careers, and now it's time to move on to other things.

Umm ... ZZYFRX, I was this close to dismissing you as a troll on this subject, but then you spoiled it by posting the above. And you're right. There is so much nonsense that has worked its way into Trek over the years that I don't even know where to begin to clean it all up. Even if you dismiss everything after the original series, you have to put up with a chronology that directly contradicts our own, technology that looks a bit dated compared to what we have today, and notions about space, physics, and biology that are positively quaint. The original show spoke to the audience of that era. It warned against societal ills while pointing to an optimistic future as a beacon to guide us along a just and noble path.

I disagree that a movie that holds true to the original canon must be a bad thing. I can imagine it turning out quite good. But all of that delays the inevitable; a Star Trek that starts with fresh ideas, true only to the essence of the original, while giving viewers and fans a creative and new look at a universe we all know so well that we've become a bit jaded and bored with it. I don't want Star Trek to become the next Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers; a scratched and faded serial held dear only by an aging audience while younger minds dismiss it as naive.

I want a reboot so badly I sweat Trek cliches. But I also want it done perfectly. Roddenberry, Coon, Solow, Justman, and all the others captured lightening in a bottle forty-three years ago. I want the same thing to happen again today. A new show with the same values as the original, but with a fresh look at science and science fiction so I can once again be proud of watching a show that inspires future astronauts, engineers, techies, and doctors for another forty-plus years.
