Which, as we all gasp in horror, takes place after he MURDERS Chris Pike, revealing to all that the entire movie takes place IN THE MIRROR UNIVERSE!!!!! (*dramatic music follows*)

ILM doing the Enterprise is a no-brainer. But wait for all the goodwill to evaporate when it's revealed that the Enterprise is being redesigned. That said, hopefully the ILM folks are experienced enough to be able to come up with a way of presenting the TOS Enterprise in a way that's faithful to the TV series. If not ... I think that's going to lose a lot more ticket sales than if the NX-01 makes a cameo appearance (and if it's not a reboot, I hope it does. It's already been established that it's in a museum in the TNG era anyway, so let's see the museum.)

Cheers!

Alex

I hate the idea of dismissing models as a tool, so I hope ILM isn't the only effects house they put to use.

ILM's model unit spun off as the basis for an independent corporation, Kerner Optical. ILM works with them often when there's miniature work involved.

Well, I'm really glad to see ILM doing the VFX. Always top knotch results when you go with ILM. I think the key is going to be who is the Art Director and the Production Designer. They have a LOT to say about the "look" of the movie and how things appear on screen. Of course, they take direction from the director and producers, but their creative influence is ultimately what gives us the "look" and "feel" of what's seen. I just hope that their TOS fans too.

Scott Chambliss is the Production Designer.

Great, ILM working on the Enterprise again. That'S another mark up for this movie.

Not quite. This is actually a big mark down for the movie.

ILM has produced some of the crappiest SFX in the last ten years, namely the "special editions" of the OT and the abortion that was the PT, not to mention the horrible Mummy movies as examples. ILM was once the top FX house in the world, but they fell prey to their own hype and now produce sub-par work. These days Weta Digital, Digital Domain and Zoic give them a good run for their money.

He's worked with Abrams before, like on MI:III, but that's all I know.

This is intresting but I wonder what or if they make any changes to the ship or will it be more pretty version of the ship we have already seen before.

I suspect that if this movie was given a bilion dollar budget, if Gene Roddenberry came back from the dead to give it his personal blessing, if miraculous technology was used to revert the TOS crew to the ages they were 40 years ago so they could star in it, that if Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron and Ridley Scott co-directed it, if the script was written or worked on by a score of Oscar winning writers, then you'd still predict in advance how much it was going to stink.

The Re-Animated Corpse of Gene Roddenberry is such a has been! This film will be a FLOP!

I don't thing ILM needs defending, but just to qualify some matters: the second MUMMY pic was a situation where the director pretty much doubled the fx shot count with no extra time to do the work, and GL seemed to final the first take on a lot of prequel trilogy crap, so those aren't typical situations and I don't judge ILM on the basis of those works. In most situations, ILM has done spectacular work, both the phantasmagorical and the photo-realistic. Personally I found their work on the first PIRATES film to be amazingly good.

By way of comparison, Digital Domain has been doing mostly mediocre work for a decade, nothing to approach the glory of APOLLO13, and in some instances their presence has pretty much wrecked a movie (see RED PLANET's production history, where they contracted to do -- and were paid for -- all of the film's fx and wound up delivering about 3 percent of the fx load.)

I think WETA did its best work in helping out Sony on 'the trip' in CONTACT, but then again I'm no LOTR fan. They are definitely here to stay. But I don't see ILM as losing any sleep over WETA's existence ... there are way too many big fx projects to go around these days (which I don't think is a good thing.)

He also worked with him on Alias.

Throwing money at something doesn't make it better (i.e. Pluto Nash, Evan Almighty, Staw Wars PT).

Oh please, Rottenberry was a hack with no real talent of vision. His ideas were flawed and his scripts were pure crap! His interference is what helped produce the worst episodes of Trek.

OH THE HORROR! It's bad enough seeing The Shat old and fat, but when they digitally made him younger for that one commercial not too long ago I almost lost my lunch. It was horrid!

None of that would happen since no A-list talent would touch a failed TV franchise like this. Robert Wise gave it a go once and look how that turned out.

Yep. Star Trek's time has come and gone. Like the dinosaurs, it's a failed project that had its time in the sun and now needs to remain extinct. The very premise is flawed and out-of-date. Any attempt to resurrect it will be met with failure.

I honestly dont know why you post here.

It would appear that you participation here is simply to cause ill will. Have you no interest in the next Star Trek project?
