Enterprise theme song

I'm sure part of the reason why Enterprise wasn't as popular as the other series is down to the theme song. I believe they decided on a rock ballad instead of the traditional instrumental theme tune to give it a retro feel - they certainly achieved that, circa 1980s.

ENT had far bigger issues than use a song for it's main title sequence. I don't dislike the song but that doesn't mean I love it either.

That's not the reason why ENT wasn't popular. Not even partly. People don't decide they're not going to watch a show because they don't like the theme song.

I don't care for the title theme, but at least I'm not skipping through it as much anymore. My biggest problem with the song is it wasn't a new piece commissioned for the series, it's recycled from an old Robin Williams movie. It doesn't inspire me because I always see it as second hand goods.

I really liked it the first two seasons, but they changed it for the third and fourth seasons. I honestly don't think that the theme song had a lot to do with the reason why people didn't like Enterprise, I think they were burned out on Star trek on television.

The song certainly wouldn't have helped. I can't think of many shows with a theme that bad. Just try imagining the ENT opening titles with theme from Different Strokes! Inappropriate, but strangely less horrible.

Very true. Whether the theme was a good or bad choice, any of the show's major, noteworthy problems were much deeper than that.

Being used to the the types of themes from the other four shows, the ENT theme took me by surprise, but I didn't find it nearly as horrible as most people did. But -- the slow version from seasons one and two was a lot better. Irregardless of that, the visuals were perfect for the show,

Not sure if this has ever been posted, but there's a neat little fan-made version of the intro with Archer's Theme laid over the visuals. As the YouTube poster commented in his description, it fits interestingly enough.

^ First time I actually watched that! It starts great, but starts to drag in the few bars before the "rock out" section. I have a feeling the music was actually slowed to fit the footage. But it does show it would have worked.

No, the video is the same length as the CD track; 1:30. I have a feeling Archer's Theme was written for the opening credits before they decided to go with the song.

They were attempting to undo the typical Star Trek show and one of the ways was to rethink the music. But at the same time, they didn't even bother writing a new song. They just got some guy to sing an old Diane Warren/Rod Stewart song. I actually liked the song but hated it being used for a Star Trek series as the opening theme. I still think they could have found a suitable opening theme like the other shows and kept the Warren song for the closing credits.

I liked it I felt that it suited the theme of the show. I have not ever gotten why they ramped it up for seasons 3+4.

I read once that they were hearing the complaints of fans who didn't like the theme and that they wanted to up-tempo it a little. I guess that once you get into a series it's probably hard to abandon a theme song, so you more or less become married to it; for better or for worse.

It was probably fairly cheap to add drums to the theme too. I could probably do it in a day in my digital studio.

It was brutal. I don't understand why they went with it to begin with. I'm surprised that they decided to keep it after the negative audience reaction. And I am amazed that after they started all of the massive shakeups (firing writers, serialized storyline, the hiring of Manny Coto) that the imitation Rod Stewart light rock song from Patch Adams was the one thing they would not give up on.

:guffaw:That's funny, right there.

B5 maanged to change it's theme tune yearly so it can be done. But in the case if ENT did they make the Theme Song worse or better when they changed the tempo for S3-4. I'm in the camp that say they made it worse.

Not only that, but the Season 3 "improvement" of it in light of the negative fan reaction was the point when I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I still like to think that the bridge crew preformed that song on a (mandatory) ship wide talent show, with T'Pol playing the tambourine.

It's not a bad song, just....bland....very bland. I always thought the Star Trek openings are way too long, though that's more a problem if you binge watch the episodes, I guess.
