Enterprise Should've Looked More Like Stargate SG:1s Prometheus

Dayton3

Admiral
I know the Prometheus wasn't featured on Stargate SG:1 until a year after Enterprise premiered, but the overall look of the interior of Prometheus to me made much, much more sense for an early starship than the Enterprise did.

Of course, I understand that from an exterior point of view, Enterprise had to look "Star Trekian".

NX-01 looked as it should for a ship that's ~150 years in the future. Prometheus is supposed to be "contemporary"

I actually thought the NX-01 should have looked less "futuristic" than the Prometheus, with a cockpit and ladders instead of a bridge and turbolifts...

I kinda agree. I really think there shouldn't have been turbolifts on NX-01. IMO, it's a luxury that more advanced starships probably should have.

I would've liked the interiors (especially the bridge) to look more like the Prometheus and later ships, but I think the exterior should've looked more Treky - though not necessarily with a saucer and two nacelles. A ringship could've been cool, or something along the lines of the colony ship from "Terra Nova". Even the Intrepid and "Delta" Starfleet designs from the latter two seasons would've been cool. I don't hate the NX exterior design, but I wish they would've gone with something a little more pimitive and original looking.

Oh god, no. Stargate's production values are hideous. Sets, costumes, makeup, you name it, looks like a high school drama club production.

They had to balance making the ship look "rustic" compared with the TOS Enterprise (gray walls, low ceilings, ladders in engineering, etc) and making it familiar to viewers and a set that could give them some flexibility in filming (room for action, different camera angles, etc). The shows creators have said that they did not feel they could make it too low tech looking at get away with it. They had to find a middle ground. It worked for me, I love the NX-01. It first I did not know what to make of it, but the way they used it over the series, and they way they described the technology aboard, seemed pretty realistic.

I liked the interiors of NX-01, although I agree with you on the turbolifts. I thought they should've just had ladders to access each deck.

We use elevators to travel between floors of a building TODAY--why wouldn't a starship that's 150+ years in the future have turbolifts???

Plus, in the future turbolifts move from one part of the ship to the other... IIRC, aboard the Enterprise (NX), they only go up and down.

Personally, I enjoyed how the Enterprise looked. I do believe having a couple of stair cases in there in case of a power failure would have added some believability

Seriously. Even my crap-ass, mid-century, overcrowded gummint building has elevators. They don't work, but they're there.

I always thought the NX Enterprise should look more primitive that the Daedalus class. This kind of always irked me.

Well, I have a problem with that... The NX did look like a nice "step" along the way to the smooth NCC-1701... but in all honesty, it could have been done either way. The outside is meaningless, it's what's inside that matters
