Enterprise NX-01 Bridge Replica

Perhaps a automotive car seat - some 'recycling yards' have cars which are perfect aside from front end damage.

I would not recommend trying to build the seat yourself using padded elements. Chairs are simple in shape but very complex in how they work with the human body. I was in a woods class in college and we had to design and build a piece of furniture. A friend built a chair- it looked great but you could only sit in it for a couple of minutes before having back pains. Fast food restaurants have special chair/bench designs which are intended to only be comfortable for about 20 minutes, then you feel like you need to leave. Since this is going to be the centerpiece of your office/bridge and you are going to be in it a lot, basing your command chair on something designed for comfort over a long period of time would be the way to go IMO...

Thank you all, I'm very happy with the result myself. It's far from completed and it's not perfect but it's getting there! It's a dream coming true I remember drawing a "futuristic" desk in the late 90's watching TNG, but as soon as I start watching Enterprise I fell in love with the Ship. In 2004 we built a new home and I was to do something in the basement. We had to move to France in 2005 leaving the idea behind, but was still on my mind... Finally last year eureka! Back in Quebec buy a new house without a garage, it didn't take long to revive my project to built a 2 for 1; garage and home office/bridge on second floor!
It took a long long time working on every little time I had. But right now sited at my desk, and soon I hope my captain chair, I forgot all the troubles, pain, frustration I had during construction :)
Next step got to find a way to built this: Any ideas...

You have to put your TV or other remotes into the armrests...... Or cellphone / whatever.

Had to googled TMI myself LOL, I'm married thank you :) with a fan, otherwise it would been hard to finish that project. She work with me so she love it too.

I also thought of a car seat, I was looking for a minivan back seat like the Honda Odyssey, I had a 2003 and the back seat had 2 armrests, I've use one as my office seat for some time, but the leather seats are not really nice looking and going for no leather I don't know.... Dentist chair is an idea might be harder to find?... For remote yes I thought of that I got a iPad and a small bluetooth keyboard that part was easy. Also got HDMI cable going from where the chair will be to the TV.

Just find these but might be expensive since there are from a new 2016 KIA, color is wrong but I guest I can get them in black and gray... I keep looking.

Thanks!

I always thought the seats on the Enterprise D were stolen from a car..... I've always felt that's where the studio got them.

Thanks!
Just keep checking with the auto recycling/junk yards- new cars are getting wrecked all the time and there is an excellent change a car will be totaled with usable seats. My Mom's Allero was totaled by the insurance company last year with minor damage to the front quarter panel- it also compromised the front transaxle and was deemed too expensive to repair.

You'll probably have to make those armrests.
Please tell me you're going to put an iPad, or Kindle Fire in that armrest.

Actually it a Windows tablet, since I code all day for PC I'll be able to code more fun stuff on it. Just gotta learn how to work with a Andrino or something to control all via a computer. It's not like I have nothing to do :D

Busy busy busy, but not on my project :( I'll come back in January.
I think I found my chair a VW Jetta from 2006-2010 Leather seat they look pretty close to the real thing with minimum work I should get a good result. Just have to find one near by.

Well. happy holidays to you and your family. Don't let too much paid employment get in the way of your real life.

RE: seats

I dunno if any of you have been the the trek cetera museum in Vulcan, Alberta but he had a few bridge chairs from I think voyager and they looked more or less like lightly cheap officer chairs.

to the OP, awesome project.

Regarding the command chair, it seems that the base of the chair was from a boat, but then it was re-upholstered and mounted with custom armrests. From memory-alpha:
The NX-class command chair was the only chair on the NX-class bridge that was not bought from an Italian showroom. Set Decorator James Mees commented, "I bought the seat itself at a boating and marine supplier. I recovered it in leathers in our colors and some different things like that, and then the rest of the chair we built from scratch; there's a retractable arm and a retractable video screen in it, and the base lights up and it completely swivels. It's quite exciting!" The chair's armrests and base were built specially. To help Mees finalize the details, Senior Illustrator John Eaves drew some sketches of the chair. (Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 3, Issue 3, pp. 85 & 86) Production Designer Herman Zimmerman concluded, "We made a really cool chair for Captain Archer, but it uses a lot of the same dramatic devices – like a pop-up television screen and a communications button that you can hit with your fist – that hark back to James T. Kirk's chair." (Star Trek Monthly issue 103, p. 32) Ultimately, the NX command chair featured the smallest screen of all the plasma screens on the NX-class bridge, measuring seven inches across. For ENT: "Singularity", a potential updated version of the NX-class command chair – an over-planned chair supposedly designed by the obsessive Tucker – was based on a design by John Eaves. (Star Trek: Communicator issue 144, pp. 28 & 30)

As a matter of fact guys I've heard that the Enterprise-D seats are boat seats that they got from overseas but I'm not sure how they modded them, The NX-01 was also a boat seat and I think you can still buy them I've seen them for sale before but they cost over a thousand. The Defiant and the second 1701-E/ later NX-01 seat are Recaro car seats that they modded and I believe but could be wrong that the Refit, E-A and first E-E seats are custom made.

Hello I'm back! Boat Seat! Why didn't I think of that before! Doh! Well no regret they are way more expensive and hard to find so car seat will do just fine with some adjustment if required. I've been working in my shop and my house so no mush improvement on the bridge. Sorry about that. I must finish some plumbing in the washroom so I won't have to go in my house every time I need to dispose of my coffee ;)

I want to finish that this week and then I will go shop for my chair!!! Hopefully I'll found one before the end of the month.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions I'm busy but I read them all!

This afternoon I go shop for the actual chair I found a scrap yard that might have the one I need gotta go look. If it does I'll post picture of it as soon as I get it.
